Athlon X2 4400 or 4600 - Cant decide?

Just a question but i would suggest tht you look at getting a more powerful e6 series intel. If your budget is limited then try an e6300, even tho its only stocked at 1.86 it still will beat virtually any athlon and the value for money is just incredible... 26 sec super pi at stock clocks if i remember correctly... if ** gonna stick with the X2 then i'de put the 4600 cuz u wont need the larger cash unless your doing some serious rendering. - just my 2p

yer budget is limited to just over £100 (which is what i can get either of the X2's for) cant really go down the route of new mobo/ddr2 ram and new cpu. just want a little upgrade from my very old winnie.

4400 is 2.2ghz with 2 x 1MB of L2 cache

The only other sweet spot in the x2 range

3800 and 4400.

All the others are a waste of money as any 4400 will clock past 4600 speeds and the extra cache is equivalent to around 200mhz in speed.

I would look for a second hand opteron 165 or 170 though. These clock better and need less vcore for bigger clocks.

Unless you can source one new.

I just sold a 165 that did 2.8ghz on stock volts great chip better than the x2 for this very reason.

i had the same choices but i went for a 4400, more l2 catche, but looks like i have a duff chip unluckily, it wont even do 2.7ghz
