Whats the max temp on a socket A Athlon XP 2600 1.90Ghz??

GOnna overclock it abit and get bit better performance!

Matt.

Keep it under 65C if you can help it. Max temp before irreversable damage is 85C i think but you're not getting anywhere near that and be stable.

during summer, i borrowed a AthlonXP computer from university. and on stock cooler, they run so hot (in a messy, full-of-dust case, no airflow) they started to throttle. and by touching the heatsink, im guessing it's over 80c (my figures nearly got burnt)

55C rule of thumb back then (not sure who made that up), the mobiles Bartons are rated 100C at stock.

I go by AMDs 65C, have had em at 70C for a whole year straight with quiet cooling and genome folding and later sold em, still work fine. Remember though as vcore and frequency increases (especially vcore) the max die temp drops.

Been running my Barton XP 2500 @3200 for three years. Hits 60 degrees under load in summer, had no problems. I think that 85 degree number is right for damage, so I would be okay as long as I keep it under about 65.

Who says you cant run it at 60 or hotter ?, it was just a guide made years ago probably by users who overclock and use good cooling.

There is something wrong if you cant cool it better, they do not run that hot, that was Thunderbirds.

There is the cirtial temps, would you run them temps ?, just because my Mobile had 100C actually marked on it does not mean I would run it 100c ;)

I ran them to be quiet, also highly overclocked for e.g i had a Barton Mobile 2500+ at 2.6Ghz 1.75v, Tbred 2700+ @ 2.5Ghz can't remember volts, Barton Mobile 2400+ @ 2.4Ghz 1.75v, Tbred B 1700+ @ 2.6Ghz under water plus a few more, trust me they get hot and some steppings plain ran hotter than others as seen in core 2s but not that drastic. Also palominos were'nt drastically cooler than Thunderbirds and my 2100+ ran wayyy hot with stock cooling and frequency when i got it, AX-7 and Delta fan soon got it to 2.1Ghz 1.9v with reasonable temps. Also a hot chip was my Tbred A Athlon MP 2200+ pair, did'nt even bother o'cin as i used em as a duallie server but the stock cooling needed to be changed when put in a SCSI environment. Most of my aircooled overclocks were done with Thermalright sinks and quiet 80/92mm fans, the fact that even in summers bloom i kept em around 70 with a few hdds etc. in the cases that were to say the least, restrictive, is decent in my book.

My 2600M ran either 14 x 200 = 2800mhz or 10 x 275 = 2750mhz @1.875v, it never passed 52C in winter with home heated or 55C in summer, used a TT Big Typhoon and a 120mm SilentCat fan controled by Speedfan low as 50% when not under load.

Typhoons weren't even in the design phase when i was overclocking most of my AXPs, it was all SLK700s/800s/900s, Volcanos, AX-7s etc.. heck 120mm fans were unheard of even :). Its no wonder you got good temps as the Typhoon is as good as some watercooled AXP setups in my aircooling days.

Same here, it started off on a 90mm TT Pipe101 + 90mm SilentCat Fan well before the TT-BT.

I had the Mobiles when they 1st appeared, the 2500m 1.45v I had was crap, there was no 2500m 1.35v then and the 2600m 1.45v I got later was a peach and I cherry picked it from this store with my choice of stepping, it was supposed to be best ever and was gotten from a database of users findings.

Going from 90mm to 120mm cooling let me run the CPU as a XP3200 (200 x 11 = 2200mhz) @ 1.45v and I could then lower volts for 2500mhz from 1.675v to 1.65v (with any mix of multi+FSB)

All speeds I mention were 3D mark(s)s and Prime stable.

I believe i had an SLK8 or 900 with a 60mm Delta sat on the top.

Ran my old 1.4Ghz thunderbird at stock and the temp was about 50-55 degrees and the damn thing sounded like a jet engine - could hear it from outside my room in halls.

Heh those deltas were the dogs.. :D Last one i had was a CFM monster of the time, forgot how much but at 80mm it was louuuud and i swear it'd take your finger off if it got in there.

My Barton 2800 (used all the time until last week - often running max load for days on end) idles about 55C :p with an Aero7 on it and 3 case fans :p.

Don't know load temps, I might look later and scare myself..

It's so ridiculously dusty, but I can't be bothered to clean it yet. Been rock solid stable, though.
