Chaps, my plan is to play Blu-Ray discs via a SATA BR optical drive via one of these cards connected through the HDMI on the card to my LCD TV.

Is it up to the job or do I need something more substantial?

Also, will the HDMI connection work directly into the TV as it would if connected via VGA or do I need to do some fiddling? Media PC will be running Win7 Ultimate.

Cheers :-)

Yeah it will be fine my laptop has a 5470M which is basically a 5450. It plays blu ray's on the 1920x1080 screen fine.

HDMI is just plug and play but you might have to fiddle with the default sound settings to play sound through the card.

I'll have the sound coming out of a separate card into my amp & speakers so that's sorted, just gonna be using the HDMI out for visuals.

I'm assuming the HDMI will perform the same duties as a VGA cable would, so I'll still be able to see BIOS etc on the PC?

My amp is pretty old and not that advanced, I just use a line out cable from the soundcard on the PC to the amp.

Can you run sound through the HDMI cable into the TV, AND through the soundcard into an amp at the same time?

I have a 5450 and Blurays work great. However you may have HDCP copy protection issues if you are sending video over HDMI and audio over a separate connection. I had all sorts of issues with Cyberlink but I've now got TMT5 and AnyDVD HD.

Be aware that the heatsink on the fanless version gets f-ing hot (too hot to touch)! I'm a bit concerned about airflow in my Antec Fusion as the 5450 is toasting my tv tuner.

It used to work fine with mine until I decided to give Cyberlink and their software the old two finger salute and bought a dedicated player instead.

+1, these fanless ones are bloomin crazy, my htpc gets pretty warm nowadays. Got the XFX 5450 here and idles at 60c!!! Blu Ray plays flawlessly though.
