ATI 5770 Crashing Issues - Please Help

Hi All

Just wondered if anyone could help with this problem...

My brother has just bought a 5770, a PSU & new ram for his machine and in general the system is fine & stable. Primed for 24hrs without issue.

Can run a lot of new games without issue, but any games like Half Life 2, Counterstrike Source etc crash almost instantly... I think they are all DirectX games so I dont know if that has any relevance?

I've tried several different versions of the ATI drivers, which all do the same thing, ive used driver cleaner etc to wipe & reinstall each time as well....

Ive googled the problem and found quite a bit about this problem but cant find a solution.

Any Ideas?

Apparently this is one of the error messages he gets:

BAD_POOL_HEADER
video secular has encountered a fatal error

IRQL not less or equal

If you google bad pool error you get threads going on about cd drivers, printer drivers, faulty harddrive / ram & anti-virus software causing it :

What are the specs of his pc ? What os is he running ?

Running Vista Home 32bit

Not got Microsoft Security Essentials installed either...

Seems to just be caused by Dx9 based games like CSS & Half Life 2

Yes, DirectX has been updated

Tried updating all chipset drivers and visual c++ distros?

Try an older set of CC drivers as well.
