ATI 5850 Crossfire ULPS problem

I've just put a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Pro on my system. I was previously using Windows 7 x64 Home Premium but I had to move to PRO to allow me to use more than 16GB of ram.
I took advantage of the cheap ram prices to enable the use of a ramdisk in my PC.

I have 2x MSI 5850 Twin Frozr in my system which have been running fine at stock speeds on my Home Premium setup. I've been using MSI Afterburner to enable the use of fan profiles as the default setting of 54% is to loud for normal use and I use headphones when gaming.

My problem now is that the second card is not dropping down to idle speeds. Afterburner is reporting it running @ 725core, 1000mem and 54% fan speed.
Card 1 is 157core, 300mem & 25% fan speed.

Ultra Low Power State is enabled in the registry. If I disable Crossfire the second card drops to idle speeds but the fan stays @54%, which I think is the standard settings.
If I enable Crossfire the second card fan profile kicks in for about 10 seconds and the the card returns to 725core, 1000mem & 54% fan speed.

I'm using Cat's 11.8 but have tried 11.7 with same result. I was using 11.7 on my Home Premium setup ok.
I've tried MSI Afterburner 2.1.0 and now I'm using the 2.2.0 beta.

Any ideas on how to get the second card to idle and use a fan profile?

EDIT: I've now posted this in the 5850 Twin Frozr thread.

In afterburner there is a little tick box called "synchronize settings for simliar graphics processors". Make sure you tick it as it will mirror all the adjustments you made to you first card onto the second.

ok, how about the settings in catalyst control centre for "enable manual fan control" and "enable AMD overdrive" on your second GPU as I belive you have to have these checked for afterburner to have control over the fan and clock speeds.

Ok I'll check that out, but I've never had to touch those settings before.

Strange thing is if I run GPU-Z the profiles work as they should. If I close GPU-Z they don't.
So it's a software switch somewhere not working.
I'll just leave GPU-Z running in the background for now.
