Hi guys. I have an ATi 5850 which I purchased from OCUK about 3 months ago.

When playing L4D2 I get constant driver crashes and it's stopping me from playing it.

System:

intel core i5
gigabyte UD2 micro atx board
4GB DDR3
XFX 5850

I play in 1920 x 1080 vsync on, AA x 4 AF x 8.

I am running latest drivers and latest BIOS update.

All parts were purchased from OCUK.

When just using the desktop and watching movies I have no issues with the card.

The crash goes like this: video stops, sound starts to loop for ten seconds, video dissapears, video comes back, sound stops looping, everything goes back to normal. This happens at varying times but about every ten minutes or so, and seems to die off the longer I play it.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers.

Im having problem just like you with hd5850, but was getting same thing with 4870 and 5770 too, i think its a driver issue mate. Im getting better performance with out the box drivers. Also could be psu im getting a new one this week.

I've got an identical setup to you (i5 / 5850 / UD2 mobo) and although I haven't been playing L4D2 that much I haven't had any problems. Using Windows 7 64bit. I don't have the latest BIOS, think I've got the second revision that came out. If I get any issues will post again.

I'm going to try re-installing the drivers and what not today see how I get on. Heard some people say install the drivers but not CCC. So i'm gonna try this as well.

If anyone else has any tips though that would be great.

Cheers.

This game crashes a lot. Both for Ati cards and Nvidia always doing that same stupid sound loop crash. Then you get that driver has failed to respond but has recovered thing. Only this game crashes with such frequency that I have so I just gave up on it. More inclined to think it's the game as other source games run without a hitch.

I have been running stability tests with Prime95 and FurMark, and the graphics drivers keep crashing with FurMark running. So it can't be down to that particular game.

I have just set the freq to 100 and it *seems* to have solved the problem. Why would it do this?

No. I have no overclocking on the graphics card what so ever. It was set on auto when I went in.

No. I don't. I have the overboost setting thingy on, so it goes up to 3.0GHz when it needs to, but no overclocking. Wy?

Right, this has not solved the problem. The crash is the same as before expect the sound is not coming back. Please someone help me with this. I'm bloody sick of it now =[

Doesn't make any difference =/ and it isn't a problem with the card itself. It's software somewhere, otherwise the card would be crashing all the time, but it only seems to do it in L4D2. Hasn't crashed at all using FurMark the last two times I have ran it after changing the freq too 100mhz.

Do you use AVG virus software? if you do try removing it (helps some). Turn off muliticore rendering in the in game options (might help).
Though I'll tell you this again. It's a buggy game. The problem you have is common. Use google to look for left 4 dead sound loop crash and you will see pages of people who have problems with l4d.
