hello guys just want some advice i am currently using an ati 5970 and have heard about the release of the 6990 very soon

i am wondering if you have any tips on when to sell my ati 5970 do i wait till it comes out or sell it before and be graphics cardless :(

also what kind of price i was thinking around the 380-400 mark

hmm too be hounest i wouldnt go lower then 350 after spending 500 odd pound on this card i'd rather keep it as a monument then sell it for such a low price haha

and plus 250 pound gets you a 6970 which in comparison wont match a 5970 unless you your going on purely the fact its new tech.

It's unfortunate but 5970 prices nose dived on the second hand scene. Better trying your luck on an auction site tbh as people know they can get them cheaper than what you want.

yeah looking at the prices on ebay you could be right such a shame tbh should i wait until the 6990 comes out and risk losing more or go for it now and be graphics cardless apart from a 460gtx :(

You'd definitely not get £350 for a 5970, so just keeping it would be your best option, also, technically speaking, £210 gets you a 6970, if you get a 6950 and "unlock" it to a 6970.

The prices will not get any better for 5970's in my opinion. If its money your looking to save then sell now and use your gtx460 which when overclocked is a really good spare card.

I doubt any of us are millionaires... so in saying that, general rule of thumb: The more money you spend on your gpu's the longer you should expect to hold on to them.

Spend small, upgrade often, spend big, upgrade infrequently.

I should think a 5970 is good untill windows 8 come around in early 2013.

Im even planning to keep my 5870 untill then.

No need for an upgrade.

In fact my whole pc should be good untill windows 8.

while i do agree ope the childish side of me simply cannot ignour the 6990's specs (if there true) but i think after that i'll be done upgrading for a few years lol

ati 5970 has been amazing i was going to maybe go for the gtx590 thats due out because its been sometime since ive owned an nvidia card but apparently the price on that thing will be redic... asif 500 quid for 5970 wasn't lol

In all fair honesty if you're not fussed about DX11 the 5970 will be a beast for years to come. I'd rather save the money.

I sold my ASUS 5970, fully boxed with all the bits etc for £380 + £12 postage on eBay last Tuesday. It sold within 7 hours so maybe that was a little cheap!!

If you do a buyit now auction (with offers option) you only pay about £10 in fees, as opposed to 10% fees with a standard bidding auction.

Nice one, i think you could have got a little more though.

I too am holding out for the 6990, especially as the 5970 cost me under £9 a month for its time with me :p
