ATI 6850 and 6870

I have just popped onto the site today, and noticed these new cards in the ATI range. How do these compare to a 5850? Or is it too early to say?
That's a big thread with reviews links already. Roughly speaking, 6850 is on par with GTX460 1GB, whereas 6870 is on par with GTX470 (if talking about out of the box performance, not counting overclock performance).

Hi there

6870 performs inbetween the 5850 and 5870 making it exceptional value for money as it consumes less power and is quieter. :)

The 6850 is about 5830 performance.

6850 is slightly slower than a stock 5850, the 6870 is about 15-20 % faster than a 5850, basically a 5850 clocked to 850 on the core will match a 6870.

Do remember that they were originally meant to be replacements for the 5770 i.e. 6770 but manufacturing issues (as always) means they're at £200 instead of the planned £100 hence they chose to rename it the 6870 so as not to hurt 5770 sales.

Fixed. :p

I don't know if it's that simple though, I think the whole range was supposed to be on 28nm, so maybe these would have been 6700s if they were built on 28nm. But again, one of these on 28nm could be quite a bit more powerful.

I suggest you google the current currency index and do some quick maths. $239 plus 17.5% VAT is nowhere near £200 unless you want it to be

This too, just goes to show, this guy's probably some one who perpetuates the "rip off Britain, we get ripped off on everything". I've lost count of the amount of times that I've had to point out the fact that we simply pay the current USD>GBP+VAT.

Ignorants agree to pay more, call it a rip off.

I think he was claiming it ironic that you spelt ignorance wrong. What he actually meant is that it's hypocritical to call some one ignorant whilst being unable to spell ignorance. The funny thing about it is that it's not actually ironic...

He probably didn't grasp the fact that you were pluralising "ignorant" to mean a group of ignorant people, or, ignorants.

@Krugga; My bad Krugga, I've lost track of which card people are talking about :)

@kylew; Ignorant is both singular and plural, it has no s, and is defined as:

1. lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.
2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.
3. uninformed; unaware.
4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.

If you wanted to conjugate a noun for a group it would be ignoramuses.

Hypocrisy however:

1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

Lastly cynical:

1. like or characteristic of a cynic; distrusting or disparaging the motives of others.
2. showing contempt for accepted standards of honesty or morality by one's actions, esp. by actions that exploit the scruples of others.
3. bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic.

Never assume.
