i have just built my new rig which i built at my workplace where it was plugged into a dell 21" monitor wit max res of 1680x1050 where it works fine
it has 2 ATI 6900HD in SLI mode

i brought it home and plugged it into my dell u2711 and it will now only find a max display of 1680 x 1050 not the 2560 x 1440

i have plugged 3 other monitors into it and it detects all of these which have a higher resolution than the 1680

i have swapped leads updated to the latest drivers but still no joy
the monitor works fine on my old rig and my wifes pc at max res

i am now totally baffled by this

please help :D

cards are radeon HD 6900

i am connecting via dual dvi cable

Are you using the correct DVI connector on the graphics card?

Only one of them is dual link to support 2560x1440.

Also have you installed the driver for the monitor so that Windows "knows" what resolutions it's capable of.

yes im using the correct dual dvi lead that came with the monitor

and i have installed the latest drivers for the monitor and the GFX cards

never had this problem at all before

totally baffled atm

you must use this port on the gfx card is what he means

Only one of the two DVI ports is dual link

Are you sure it's a dual link DVI cable?

I can't upload an image at the moment but it should have all 24 pins present in the connector.

Have you tried the DisplayPort connection?

Remember if you're using CrossFire to only use the connections from the top card. I'm not sure wht happens if you try to use the connections from the bottom card.

the cards are 6970s

after plugging in the wifes monitor and then putting it back into the dell it seems to have picked her resolution up of the 1920 x 1080

but still wont detect the max resolution of the u2711

Just to add a bit more are you definiately using the correct DVI connector on the card?

You need to use the one which provides the VGA output as this is the dual link DVI-I.

It could well be the bottom connector on the card:

And just to check a dual link DVI cable should look like this:

i still am having the same problem

i have done a clean install of windows and even attached it to two different 30" dell monitors

and it still wont detect a higher resolution than 1920 x 1080

im clean out of ideas here

even reseated the cards swapped them round used 4-5 different dual dvi cables all in the right ports

clueless.....

I had a similar problem when installing a (temporary) 6450 and displaying at 2560x1440.

The CCC drivers hadn't installed properly and so I had to open device manager and check under display adapters. I had to right click on the GPU and update driver before I could get the card and resolution rcognised.
