Any difference in using the second pcie slot? Im using the silver arrow cpu cooler and there is not a lot of space. If anything it touches the back of the card.

Depends of the motherboard being used, as may run at reduced speed which may cripple the card.

What is the specs of the motherboard your using.

i actually did some benchmarks for this a while ago with crysis, bfbc2 etc..., the difference is about 1fps in the vast majority of games, maybe 2 on rare occasions :p

Is this the motherboard your using in the link below:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68VGEN3/#specifications

If yes, then the 2nd slot will run at 8x rather than 16x, how much performance hit would I suspect will depend on the games being used.

DF1986 what board was you using and PCI-E speeds.

That is the motherboard i have yes. I only ever play battlefield. Never had it in the upper most slot. When i put it in, im sure its touching the cooler and looks to be pushed down.

Not really want to change cooler either, i like this one even though its pretty huge.

I cant even bench test it, unless i change the cooler.

If i did, would the corsair h80 match the performance of the silver arrow. But then again, id have to cahnge my case.

currently im using the lian li a10. with 1 fan at the top.

Only difference from the top and second slot for your board is x16 and x8 speeds, however it's PCI-E 2.0 so the only performance loss you'll get is pretty much 1~3%. You won't even notice that in games...

Was testing with my current setup, but sometimes it didnt even change, stayed the same as if i had it in the x8 slot.

With the Asus, the board can do dual 16x or 16 / 8 / 8 so you would have needed to test in the third slot to run at 8x.

It makes virtually no difference, in my system one card is running off a 4xPCIe slot, and it actually hasn't affected performance at all. I'm getting the same FPS, Unigine scores, 3dmark scores, etc...
