Industry sources told Germany's heise online that AMD is targeting December 6 as a launch date.
There was no information which architecture these new GPUs will be based on, but there appears to be reason to believe that AMD may be unveiling performance desktop boards, which will become available in very limited quantities in December, heise said. Due to 28 nm transition problems, it may take some time until there is enough supply to meet demand.
If heise's sources are correct, then we assume that the announcement in December will be about AMD's Southern Island GPU family, which is expected to be called the Radeon HD 7000 series. We are expecting these GPUs to use Rambus' XDR2 DRAM memory instead of GDDR5, MIMD instructions instead of VLIW, support for PowerTune as well as x86 addressing and Partially Resident Textures.
TSMC reportedly increased its pricing for 28nm products as it noticed substantially higher demand than the company initially expected. Xbit labs speculated that TSMC's capacity for 28nm wafer production is only 7000 to 10,000 units during the current fourth quarter.

from a diff site

Even if it's true then it sounds as if they could be pricey.

Higher production costs and limited supply are not a good combination for reasonable prices.

me too, would be nice if they brought out the top range cards first. I have an urge to fiddle with my pc

It doesn't make business sense to bring out the best they have straight away - it's going to be staged releases like it was with the 6k series, with the 9-- cards being the last to come.

Industry sources.........yeah ok. Your not saying anything that new and nothing that AMD hasn't already officially stated.

As far as i am aware amd have not said anything officially about launch dates. Around 3 months ago people were saying it could be a september/october release. Then we had rumours of a early 2012 release. There have also been rumours of mid 2012. What he has reported is news to me and many others i suspect whether its true or not.

I suspect somebody got out the wrong side of the bed this morning.

At there last financial call press call they stated that they expect to launch 28nm GPU parts in Q4 which realistically given the logistics involved would mean December 2011 and as far as I'm aware AMD haven't said anything about a delay. The only people who have mentioned delays are the normal rumour mill sites like Fud and Softpedia quoting from sources like unnamed industry experts.

does anyone know if its Q this year or next year?? next year would make more sense unless bulldozer was bad due to more attention being spent on their GPU's meaning they could be really bad or really good, maybe....

sayin that, the 7000 sereis definatley wont be comming this year, especially because TSMC cant keep up with the demand for 6000 sereis chips AND that they cant effectively produce the 28nm fast enough for AMD's demand, and with bulldozer being an unfortunate waste of their time & money then it just makes more sense not to release now and to release Q4 next year as nvidia havent got any new cards out until 2012 and it gives AMD and TSMC more time to perfect the GPU's

Why do people just talk such utter nonsense, TSMC has a couple of gigafabs dedicated to 40nm, 6xxx series cards are on 40nm, 28 nm is in a completely different fab, with production of one not remotely effecting another.

It makes sense to release something they have ready and have spent money taping out.... a year after they can because Nvidia won't have anything ready till then.

SEriously THINK for 5 seconds before you post.

Currently 580gtx is the fastest card around, there are plenty of people who buy the fastest card around no matter who makes it, AMD, for the SAME MANUFACTURING COSTS, can make a card maybe 50-60% faster than the 580gtx.

If AMD can release cards that are 30-60% faster at every price point....... you think they'll delay? So rather than blow Nvidia out the water and get huge sales, they'll wait, so Nvidia gets higher sales now, and AMD won't get as many sales when they do release the cards.

Everything you said utterly and without question flies in the face of all logic, ALL history of gpu releases, and any sanity whatsoever.

As does releasing the 7970 card last because it will hurt sales?

Which cards have come first from Nvidia/AMD every single generation except for ONE for AMD, the top end. Why, because AMD had midrange that was just a evolution of the previous core and the high end was a 32nm design that had massively more work needing doing to it so took longer to get ready, thats the entire story behind the one time AMD have released the midrange part before the high end........ once.

What does the HD7000 series have to do with Bulldozer.... nothing, is Bulldozer bad, no, is it epic, no, was it ever going to smash Intel to pieces no. Power wise bulldozer uses the SAME amount of power that Gulftown did, Intel's first 32nm cores, except those are 1.17billion transistors, AMD's is 2billion transistors.

If their cpu releases are failures, or epic, a gpu is ready when its ready and released when it can be released, spending millions upon millions on R&D and taping out a design, just to shelve it for a year because a CPU launch went well, or badly, would make no sense.

Corrr steady on mate,

read this and then read this

so yes there WAS a problem and from what i beleive they have 2 40nm fabs and although they will struggle producing 28nm GPU'S they have got another 28nm fab i beleive being built as we speak just like the 40nm fabs with the 6000 sereis cards, also you need to note i said maybe there is a link between bulldozers performance and the 7000 sereis, and even if the 7000 sereis are release this year they wont the the high end cards... if theyre released this year then i'd have expected the high end cards be in a few months later...

and now you've gave your 2 pence can you calm down a tad please?

Your first link is softpedia, they repost rubbish any website posts, they are complete rubbish, the second link, I have no idea what a link from 2010 talking before the 6970 launch has to do with anything going on now.

Bulldozers performance and HD7000 are NOT linked, and I have no idea what problem you are refering to and claiming their WAS.

Its the same one or two sites posting rumours, which none of the "real" or even marginally respected sites have gone near, the same way all the crap news reposting idiot sites all insisted Bulldozer would launch on the 19th Sept, NONE of the major sites went with this news because they knew it was BS.

As for struggling to produce gpu's... thats the case on any new process for any product from any manufacturer. Before you break 10k wafers a month, you need to break 5k wafers, before you get past 5k wafers, you have to get past 2.5k wafers, etc, etc. Production starts slowly, theres nothing new there.

THis all ignores, as did you the utterly ridiculous claim that because Nvidia wouldn't have competing cards maybe AMD will delay their cards by a full year, this is beyond, I mean utterly out there in terms of ridiculous. Then trying to link Bulldozers competitiveness with why it would be a waste to have faster cards now rather than next year.

Because thats what your first post focused on, and my reply, the complete and utter nonsense part, not the respouting not well covered rumours that only the absolute gutter sites have printed first part of your post.

DM making a long informative post as usual :)

I was going to write a reply but TBH theirs nothing I would have said that DM hasn't, so I'll just +1 his post instead :)
