Well had a bit of a game installing xfire, info that came with grx card was crap and seems no real easy way to see if its enabled in cat ???

As title cod5 performance is very poor and some times looks like a slide show, Now i have posted on here about my motherboard with xfire and the feed back was to get a duel 16X pci-e lane which i understand, but with xfire enabled it feels iam taking a backward step am i doing something wrong ?

I will try to get a new motherboard for Christmas X48 if poss.

Even though the increase will be small on my P35 but surly it should play better ?

Any experts on Xfire will be great thanks

I am a real noob at this, so one at 16X and one at 4X is that BAD:eek:

why would i not get a small increase in performance, Its like a slide show makes you feel sick.

Is there anything in my bios that i need to look out for....

Thanks

Hi, there is nothing to do with BIOS, if your mobo support only x4 in Crossfire, speed will be the same.
you need better mobo than...
i run everything on Maximum with my 4870 on COD4 & 5... dont know why you can't on Xfire

use 8.11 it is the best now

the x4 slot probably isn't helping, but probably isn't killing it either. Have you certainly got xfire enabled, check with gpu-z, in the CCC. I honestly can't remember, its been years since I ran xfire through anything other than an X2 dual gpu card so not sure if theres actually a tick box to enable xfire, if its automatic or if it works the same on normal Xfire as the dual gpu cards which is make sure Catalyst AI option is enabled, disabling it on a X2 disables one core.

Theres also an ingame option with Call of Duty games for dual gpu somewhere around the options menu, try both with it enabled and try it without. Sure one of the games worked better with it disabled on ATi, and enabled on Nvidia.

Other than that, simply, disable Xfire, frankly Cod 4/5 aren't power hungry and should run pretty much completely and utterly smooth with high framerate at max settings on a single 4870, so thats always an option.

Xfire is enabled in catalyst, when cod5 logo comes up on screen the screen pulls down in a funny way but when Xfire disabled cod5 starts normal.

Gpu-z shows Xfire disabled ? I read somewhere that Gpu-z does show up as disabled is this true. Catalyst Ai is on and set to advance and have had on standard as well.

I have never done a bios update bit scared to :-(

Even though your P35 board only runs one 16x PCI-E and one 4x PCI-E I would still expect it to provide a performance increase (just not as marked as an X48)
There must be something else wrong...

...sits back and has a think...

do you connect one or two Xfire bridges? and are thay sided "should the ATI logo point towards front or back of card?? silly as may be but what dvi output do you use 1st card or 2nd card

What i will do tonight is just install the new card on its own to make sure its not faulty.

Also i am using power lead adapters "molex to Pci-e for the second card may be i am not surplying the right voltage??? dont make it easy do they.

I'm running a Quad core P35 crossfire set up & it performs well, Summit else is wrong in your set up mate as mine eats COD4.
As for drivers I recently updated to 8.11's which concentrate on Quad core & xfire which proper pleased me even though as always benchys only showed a Slight increase.
Bridges, I have 2 & if you look at the writing the back one is easy to read but the other faces it & looks upside down, Hope that makes sense.
Powers connectors done me initially & I had to upgrade my PSU, not for more power but just to have thee Exact right connectors rather than bodge connectors, The bodge connectors I got did Nothing.

I didn't see your other thread so you'll have to start again or link me to what you have already tried.
Check arond forums for info on your Mobo, I know my mobo needed a certain Bios to get the best out of it but fortunetly I got mine 2nd hand from M&M & it came with the best Bios installed. Find out what Bios you have & if it is the best one for xfire & overclocking your board.
Same with chipset drivers.

Can't really think of owt else to say as I have the feeling you have already been told it in your other thread. Let me know what you reckon though & I will try to help. For me sorting out this system & getting it to run well has been a challenge I have really enjoyed

Get your head around this then :D

The xfire bridges go in the bottom left corner of your case, Make sense now ?

Edit.
If you look at the pic you would have to turn the mobo to the left once before installing it in case.

Edit.
I Love my Copper :p

Am running 2 HD4830 in crossfire atm and it's running great, COD4 in particular has doubled the fps. I only have 1 bridge connected as well. AFAIK the 2nd connector is for tri or quad crossfire x, although there is a debate of whether you need both connectors. Some ran benchmarks and found that adding the 2nd bridge doesn't make a difference.

And no, I don't think it matters which way you install the crossfire bridge.
