Hello @ all

I just want to ask a stupido question if i may.

Crossfire is two graphics card in one system, ATI's answer to SLi, but here is my question.

Crossfire was ment to be different to Sli becuase you dont need two cards of the exsact same make and model, but what i wanna know, I have the Sapphire X1950 XTX Toxic and its soooooooooooo Awsome, but if i buy say an X1900 and put it in will it work on Crossfire?

thanks. oh and BTW if you like ATI and like Sapphire then X1950 XTX Toxic is the way to go, hell, it worked for about 30mins without the cooler being plugged in, lol, glad it didnt fry, just shut its self down, then plugged it in and its all Good!

No, a 1900 series card won't work with a 1950 series card.

You need a 1900 master card for crossfire. But 1950 series, you don't.

While we're on the subject..!

With SLI, do games need to support it? I'm sure I remember reading about SLI needing software support but Xfire works with anything?

Back on topic;

Wouldn't you better off selling your XTX and combining that money with the money you wudda spent on an X1900 to buy an 8800?

Im afraid your wrong there, an x1900 will work with an x1950 in Crossfire, have a look here , click on question 3 to open it up, then view the compatability chart. :)

Welcome to the forums Pandorasghost. :)

Yeah only the x1900's can be paired with the x1950's though, the rest have to be the same series, like x1800 has to be another x1800 etc...

Hi everybody!
is it worth getting a 8800 GTX on a sli motherboard then so you can upgrade later, or won`t you really as the 8800 gtx is so good?

Definately worth it, a single GTX is more than enough for now, cuts through everything in its wake maxed out, full AA/AF, high resolutions, what more could you want. :)

my new ( :D ) 8800 plays bf2 in 2048x1536 with 8xAA and runs at 70-100FPS :) my crossfire x1950pro's managed 60FPS at 1600x1200

Hello, well, im glad that you all seam to think that Nvidia are the best, but i look at it this way, my first GFX card was Geforce 440 AGP and i had real problems with it, as in when i wanted to play call of duty i had to install the drivers for the card, but when i tried to play C&C i couldnt, so i uninstall the drivers and C&C worked! so then i got a ATI 9200 i think, and that was a maked improvement, and no problems. then a new system A skt 754 and the 9200 then went up to X800XL and my oh my was that beautiful with the Artic cooler on it! oh my with 2.5GB of ram FEAR no problem and on IBC with BF2 i was the first into the map. Nough said?

then i go up to Skt 939 with AMD 3700 and TWO Geforce 6600GT, and well, lets just say i kept having problems, the latest drivers yes, and the SLI kept droping out, and then just enabling the one GFX card, so, now i install an X1950 XTX Toxic by Sapphire and i have had no issues, and it runs on full Res and full AA with all the trimmings, just gotta overclock my CPU and that has proven difficult in the past.

My old Skt 754 3400 overclocked to 2.57 stable, and this 3700 i cant get it past 2.25 and that sucks!

I like ATI but a part of me wants to try out the 8800 and this will be the only reason i may use Nvidia, i wanna see two of these puppys in SLI with an AMD FX-62, with 4GB of RAM. Running from a Gigabyte I-RAM, or two. now would that be fast or what??

you cant use that as comparisons really.
To be fair C&C was hardly the most technically advanced game, it could have been the game causing the problems due to the drivers. Anyway, drivers have come along way in all these years. And SLI was a brand new feature with 6 series cards, it was bound to have a few problems. Instead of having two 6600GTs imagine if you'd had a 6800GT, you would have had a great experience then. Yea you'v got a beast card now, and its a single card solution for you at the moment, no-one would expect it to have any problems, it would be the same if you had a single card solution that was nvidia right now. Basically though two cards in crossfire or SLI doesnt mean twice the performance, single solutions are still the best option, and not getting an 8800GTX just because you'v had The problems you'v listed above with nvidia, and none with ATI is blasphemy :p

Get a 8800GTX, stop being a wuss!

i hope your realiszed that i meant generals not the first generation, C&C.
also, yes maybe one card solution for now, i do wanna get a new case, and a nice shiny new board, im running an ATI card from an Nvidia board! go figure! lol

it works, and i would love to see the state of two 8800 GTX in one system that would be awsome!

probably no where near as fast as a Core DUO OC'd, core duo's eat the FX chips for breakfast, then **** them out at about 11am while on a diet coke break :p

2Gb of Ram made up of 2 sticks will also be a lot faster than 4Gb ram made up of 4 x 1Gb (dont even look at the costs of 2Gb sticks  )

oh, you meant generals. nuff said. Buggy piece of crap if iv ever seen one. I cant beleive i even bought it. Iv had loads of problems with it

Crossfire

hello, ok i understand now that with the new CCC from ATI you no longer need a master/slave cards, because the software does this, thus making crossfire more versitile, so can i ask, how this is done in CCC any one have screenshots or something?

Thanks

Well you may know by previous posts the card i have, i was thinking about getting a 512mb X1950 a cheap one then just slotting that in, know any decent borads on 939 that will do? i have heard gripes on other forums i have read about the DFI from OCUK, but they do not make sence, so we will see.
