Ati driver issues

The 5770 cards seem to be having at lot of these issues currently in windows 7 64 bit even on clean installs.
On a fresh install my system occasionally gives the black screen plus another peculiar display problem: On boot up, now and then the Win7 log in screen is at reduced physical display size but still at the desired resolution. The desktop is effectively 'windowed' on the monitor display with the top-left visible and active but the bottom-right lying somewhere in space off the bottom-right corner of the monitor. Moving the mouse down to the non-displayed region doesn't cause the screen to scroll, so I can't see the Task Bar et al.

Strangely, if I set the Power Options to turn off the display after a very short period of time, like one minute, the desktop is fine when the monitor recovers.

Have had no problems over the past few months updating from 9.10 to 9.12 drivers. Just followed the instructions on the AMD site ie. downloaded new driver to desktop folder, used ATI uninstall program to dump old driver and all folders, installed new driver... no problems!!!

Certainly did not use driver sweeper program cos that cocked everything up on my laptop last year and ended up having to do a complete re-install and download all my drivers again.... nightmare!!!!
