im trying to install 'display drivers only' , they install fine but whehn i restart the pc windows is asking for drivers like none have been installed ? in device manager the graphic card comes up as a unknown device , ive tried reinstalling serveral times but it still does it, ive tried two different sets of drivers too , 6.8 and 6.7

ALSO........... when i try to set my monitor refresh rate too 100htz on desktop the resolution shrinks on the screen so theres a massive black border all the way around the screen , it never did this with nvidia drivers :(

ideas ?

edit: 1800xt on winxp sp2 btw

Uninstall any Ati Driver related programs in Add/remove programs. Restart. Run Driver Cleaner Pro (Download Me ) and clean up all the Ati settings. Restart. Install the drivers again and restart. Keep me updated :D

You need to install the WDM drivers to stop it from saying that there are other devices. As for the screen thing, just set your screen size (with panel buttons or auto-size if your monitor supports it), this can happen on both ATI and Nvidia drivers.

That won't help, he needs the WDM drivers for the Rage Theatre chip etc.

thats exactly what ive done dude before posting my problem here :(

edit: and adjusting screen size manually on the monitor doesnt fix it , even at 100% stretch the massive border is still there :( , i'll try installing the WDM , ta

Try removing your graphics card (cleaning PCI-Express slot and card by blowing or compressed air) and plugging it back in (Double check it's sat in the slot correctly) Have you upgraded your graphics card recently from nVidia to Ati? Maybe some nVidia drivers are remaining? If so, run drivercleaner to remove nVidia graphics card drivers :)

brand new card and mobo so i highly dount its dirty, its running fine with with CCC drivers installed so i imagine the cards slotted fine and i formatted before installing new card and mobo :)

If you need to adjust fanspeed and overclock then go with ATI Tool. :) You can run both ATI Tool and ATI Tray Tools at the same time though if you're not using Catalyst Control Centre, use ATI Tool for OC and fan control and use ATI Tray Tools for your image settings like AA/AF etc.

P.S. Glad it worked. ;)

Ive had think black lines in the squad screen with the 6.8 , it made it so u couldnt read who was in the squad as all their names where blacked out :(
