ATI Driver Reinstall "Infinite Loops"

Whenever I try to play the Company of Heroes tutorial, I get a BSOD saying that the ATI drivers have got stuck in an infinite loop  I'm using 6.12's.

I've tried clearing CMOS, running my CPU at stock, and the GFX card is at stock too.

Now I wanna try reinstalling the drivers (unless you have other suggestions?), but I've done that before on my previous computre and the catalyst control center stopped working... so this time I want to do it properly, how should I reinstall the drivers properly?

[edit: fixed now, see below]

Googlers, this is how I fixed the inifinite loop error:
Right click-mouse over My Computer
Properties
Hardware(Tab)
Device Manager(button)
Click [+] next to System devices
right-mouse on CPU to AGP Controller (or whatever your controller is called, mine was Intel something or other PCI controller)
Update Driver(button)

Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Next(button)
Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
Next(button)
Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Next(button)
Finish(button)
Reboot.

I just uninstall the drivers through control panel, making sure to uninstall CCC as well.

Then I boot into safe mode, and run DriverCleaner with the appropriate filters set (ATI Drivers, ATI WDM, and ATI CCC).

Then reboot and install. Simple! ;)

Is there a free version of DriverCleaner or free alternative to it?

Or is the fact that you've gotta pay for it just something you have to get around..?

(by "get around" I mean you have to pay for it, of course :D )

EDIT: Don't worry, a quick google showed me a download for it. I think DriverCleaner.net is a different program to Driver Cleaner Pro?

Yeah, you have to pay for it now, however the last version you didn't.

If you dig around you should be able to find the older version, which still works 100% fine.

I found the fix - a reinstall didn't work, but this did! Thanks to "cobrakaun" at techspot for bringing this fix to the masses :D

you shouldn't have to do that. performance will suffer without agp chipset drivers. i dare say you'll find out soon enough. :)

Company of Heroes and Call of Duty 2 still work fine on full  I'll benchmark later and see if that's changed much..!

edit: I don't think it's removing the drivers, more like just using a standard driver rather than whichever one it was using before..?

bah. best to ignore me then..... :p

it's just that when people complain of poor performance with agp cards, quite often it's down to not having chipset drivers installed. :o
