Since 11.5b I cannot install 11.6 and 11.7. It just says Ati driver failed to install.

I have an Asus 5870, any ideas?

I'm at the point of crying.

Uninstall and then use Driversweeper?

Might just be some dodgy registry issue causing the issue thus the need to use Driversweeper to remove all traces of the driver.

Have you tried DriverSweeper between uninstalling the old and installing the new.?

Yes Sir Hubby... I don't understand whats going on, it blue screened when I first tried 11.7 install.

Going to try the 11.8 preview drivers some guy posted on here. If that doesn't work I don't want to have to stump up £350 to go to Nvidia...

Just done a google search and it came up with this.

I had to disable the UAC by pressing and holding F8 (I think it's F8 anyway) during the boot screen before you see the windows logo to get into the windows boot options. Then select "start windows without UAC supports" and then install the .

Hope that helps.

You'll have to either try System Restore of Windows 7/Vista (if you didn't turn it off) back to a point before your BSOD, otherwise you'll need some hard work (which I don't know, maybe Driversweeper etc) before you resort to reinstall Windows.

I was taught a lesson on this - always uninstall previous driver first before installing a newer version, especially when CrossfireX is enabled. BSOD = ****** up.

Well I ran driver sweeper, rebooted installed 11.8 but it only errorer on the 2010 runtime thingy, I think that is because I already have a newer version insstalled.

Anyway driver and CCC were installed ok.

Most likely the dependencies that the ATI drivers rely on are corrupted on your computer....

Never use driver sweeper, that is most likely the cause or a contributer to you problem.

It sounds like to clean out the dust your pc would benefit from a reinstall of windows.

I have never used driver sweeper in my life, and I unistall/install drivers every month.

(Only trying to help)

This is very true, a search on goggle for Driver Sweeper takes you to Grua3D's page who only hosts a very old version of programme which isn't meant to run on Windows 7 and if you do run it it deletes critical system driver files that AMD's CCC needs. Then people come onto forums and start moaning about AMD's drivers and how they have messed up their computer when in actual fact it was user error.

Drivers are often a convenient scapegoat when a PC goes wrong during an update. As a rule of thumb if you don't see half a dozen threads or one big thread at the time of driver update with people having the same issue then its most likely not a driver problem.

I never ever had problems with ati drivers.
Usually I would just install it on top of old drivers but if i use driver sweeper its OK as well.
ppl who have problems make sure you check your windows registry and if your card is over clocked make sure it is stable OC or just roll it back to factory settings.

Erm, you are booting into safe mode and running driver sweeper right?

This is what I would do (even do it now with Nvidia even though I don't need to any more):

Uninstall the drivers from control panel,

Reboot to safe mode,

Run Driver Sweeper,

Reboot to safe mode,

Install new GFX Drivers,

Reboot,

Job Done
