Just wondering what the price/performance equivalents to nVidia's 8800GT and GTX. Just looking for something to tide me over for a while until the 5850s reach sanity :p

Looking at older gen cards, have been toying with the idea of a 5770/5750 but I think I'll pass for now.

4850 seem to be good value and i think they are a little faster then a 8800gt, you looking to purchase a card new or used?

Used, ideally within the same price range. Even better if it'll sell for roughly the same price come March. I'm crossing my fingers that Fermi will lower the 58XX prices.

4770/4830 are about the same performance as the 8800GT, possibly a bit better.

4850 is superior, always. 4770 is only better in the fact that it overclocks more and consumes less power.

4850 is just a bit faster in most games than the 8800GTX and 8800GT.

4850 is superior, always.

The only game I have seen that that runs faster on the 8800GTX is GTA4 which may be down to the extra VRAM. Assassins creed runs a nice amount faster on a 4850 than an 8800gt.

4770 is probably the closest to an equivalent as mentioned above the 4850 is a little faster. The 4830 is generally a bit slower the 4670 is quite a bit slower.

The latest article that my 5 seconds of searching or so that involved the 4770, 9800 GT and 4830 I could find was this:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_5770/30.html

So according to that, the 4830 is about the same as the 9800 GT, except at higher resolutions where it seems to pull ahead to a more noticeable margin (not that you'd use a 4830 at 2560x1600 anyway), the 4770 is slightly faster, and the 4850 is slightly faster still.

what about the HD5770? surely thats a little faster than the HD4850 and a bit more expensive
