ATi HD4890

I bought the asus one yesterday and am quite impressed. Just had a go at overclocking it but wont go nowhere near the figures some of the review sites are claiming. Can just about push it to 930mhz on the gpu, anything over that causes tiny dots on the screen of 3d apps and crashes with display driver error at 950mhz. Memory I can push a little higher and had that at 1140mhz with no problems. Overall its a nice little boost to my sytem over the 4830 I had before and the 1gb memory helps also at the resolution I use :)

Anyone got one yet? And is it any good, looks real cheap compared to Nvidia's GTX275, is it better than that or is it cheaper for a reason?

Performance wise they are about the same, GTX275 has about 500million more transistors for CUDA/Physx and reports suggest that 4890 has a terribly loud cooler.

So if you only care about games and don't mind about noise 4890 is a good cheap alternative.

Use the Asus voltage tweak software that came with it. I can't as I'm using dodgy beta drivers for Windows 7 X64:( You can up the GPU voltage from 1.31v to 1.4v

That should give it quite some kick in the pants.;)

I did have a little play with that yesterday but not upto 1.4v. Will give it another try although I wonder how much hotter my card will get with voltage. At the moment fully loaded using furmark it goes upto about 82 degrees thats with a slight overclock of 900mhz on the gpu and 1000mhz on the memory

Don't know, never had one, but this card is noisier than I find acceptable :(

Lord only knows what it would sound like with an overclock.

Maximum ive seen my fan go upto is about 52% using benchmark programmes running for 10 mins and at 100% gpu load. The sound I would guess is about the same volume as a cd reading at max speed (actually sounds like it too). Although in games it doesnt seem to hit these speeds as it wont be running as hot. Depends on what games you play i guess
