Ati HDMI Audio 'Not plugged in' during RDP session

win 7 64bit

I am connecting to my htpc with RDP (sound configured to stay at computer), the sound works for a few minutes (through amp and speakers) and then the sound stops, i have a red cross on the audio notification and when i review the playback devices the ati hdmi audio reports not plugged in.

want to control htpc during day from laptop without having to turn on projector.

any ideas?
im off to try vnc.

vnc should be okay, i have a feeling HDMI doesnt work with RDC but cant remember why.. might be the encryption but dont quote me

doesnt work with vnc either, the new vnc compatable with windows 7 is RDPesque in its session logon characteristics.

But it does work with tight vnc which is slow but doesnt redirect video.

Perhaps the amp is going into standby if it doesnt receive a video signal (gets redirected accross network when an rdp/vnc client connects)
