Hey,

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6400 which has a Radeon X1300 in it. The latest driver update from Dell is Catalyst 6.6 :(

I've seen Patje's Mobility Modder which can be used to mod a regular set of Cats to work on mobile adapters, but I fear this means I'll lose Powerplay (power saving) functions and other mobile unique features like that? I've tried the Mobility Catalysts but they don't support Dells (typical!), and Patje's modder specifically says NOT to use the mod tool on Mobility Cats.

So does anyone know a way to get Mobility Cats to work on a Dell? Or maybe enable Powerplay in regular Cats?

Cheers,

Suman

My x1800 laptop uses Omega's and the direct link Ati Mobility catalysts fine, but like yours wont validate to download them. The omegas DO have powerplay.

Ahh cool the direct link works, thanks dude :D like Skanky, Dell are not authorised to use the Mobility drivers or something but they seem to be working fine! Probably a placebo effect, but frame rates seem higher in Source based games :p

Cheers,

Suman

I wouldnt think so, its possibly a noticeable diffence, depending on how old the Dell drivers are. The F-S ones are about a year old, and theres bound to be improvements and optimisations since.

If I wasnt clear above, I meant that omega and direct link drivers usually work where the standard method doesnt, as the standard method of downloading the mobility drivers downloads a utility which detects whether you have a machine from an OEM that has paid for the driver support recently for your model of lappy, rather than initially downloading the mobility catalysts. Sorry if my explanation was confusing.

Im currently using the 7-3 mobility catalysts and they seem fine on my machine :)

Fear and HL:Ep1 - Max settings, 1440x900 res seem to be stable between 45-30fps most of the time (plugged in ofc), sometimes witha little aa and filtering on top, in FEAR real world fps monitoring, i seemed to gain about 10fps average going from the official F-S drivers, compared to the latest Cats, so its definately worth trying to keep reasonably updated with the drivers :)
