Ok my friend said why dont we swap graphics cards for a week to see if what the difference is, now i gave him my 4870X2 and he gave me his EVGA GeForce GTX 280 1024MB SSC Edition GDDR3, now he asked me weather we wanted to make the trade permanent, he likes the 4870x2 and i think the gtx280 is ok but im unsure, should i go for it ???

Hate to potentially oversimplify, but do you find the 280 better than the x2 for your needs? If you do get him to slap a few pennies on and game away. If not, obviously, don't.

If im gonna be objective try it with the games you play, bench it try it all you can if its better for you go for it. Still i feel if he wants your x2 it is for a dam good reason and i know overall its a faster card to keep.

DF1986 this is really important what I'm about to say........... get that so called friend of yours and ........................STRIKE HIM OFF THE CHRISTMAS CARD LIST:mad::mad::mad:!!!!.

:p :D

Either that or flash his GPU to start the core and memory at well below stock. Let him think you've killed his card for a few hours. Revenge is a dish best served cold .

If you're happy with the 280, then I wouldn't do a straight swap, find out the current prices on the OcUK page for 4870x2's and get him to pay you the difference, as the x2 is the better card.

Well the fact that you've ask this question says that you haven't noticed any significant difference between the two cards, having owned both I can confidently say it all comes down to personal preference, I've personally not found a single game where the GTX280 struggles so my decision was based mainly on noise/drivers.

If you want the fastest/most expensive card currently available then keep the 4870x2, otherwise if you aren't that anal about benchmarking and just want problem free gaming tell him the 4870x2 is the more expensive card and ask him to make up the price difference if he wants a trade.

op... do u want to trade gfx cards for a week.... XFX 8800GTS 320mb... where do u live... i'll pop up 2morrow during my long lunch break :P

seriously... dont swap your x2 for a 280... they may be gd but your x2 is better and will last/perform for longer

Was this whole thread some lamely disguised nvidia bashing exercise? Strange, though admittedly vaguely imaginative way of doing it :D

yeah keep the x2:D

Saying that I know some idiot that swapped a HIS 4870 x2 for A BFG 280 and also gave him £150:eek: and then the next week swappped his QX9650 for a Q9450 for only a few pennies extra:eek:

Keep the X2.

Apart from the games where Crossfire doesn't work, it's better in every way.

Yeah better at draining more power, making more noise, having poorer drivers, crashing, and running Crysis slower. So much better in every way that i sold mine for a 280.
