Hi all after looking for a week or so i've confused myself as to which card to get.

First i looked at ati cards but then liked the idea of 3d on nvidia cards, i was looking to spend a flexible £200 and in the future want to add another card.

But Is it better to spend more on one graphics card now or run two in the future?

Also is it worth forgetting the 3d idea and sticking with ati?

It will be for a gaming pc with a phenom X6 1100t, crossfire v mobo, 8gb ram.

I would be grateful if someone could at least point me in the right direction

thanks

Personally, I'd go with one good card over Crossfire/SLI. Microstutter, scaling and driver issues put me off it in my opinion. A friend of mine recently purchased a second 6870 and has had nothing but issues. Can't comment on SLI, never witnessed it.

Regarding the brand, I'd go for the best I could afford. For a decent idea on card comparisons, look here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU11/188

From what I've heard, 3D is just a gimmick (currently?) and is something that people love to try and play around with but don't keep it on permanently for gaming. I've heard others refer it to as a disadvantage while playing first-person shooters.
I have never witnessed 3D gaming myself though.

Most though not all people on here tend to express that at first 3D was a good experience for them, though it appears that it wasn't without its faults either. Things such as headaches, reactions required for precision aiming seemed slower / harder - particularly in FPS titles; and generally it becoming a passing phase resulting in it being rarely used afterwards were comments or words to that effect that I remember.

thanks for the welcome, my budget was around 200 but if its worth spending a bit more for the quality thats ok.

I'm not sure what resolution, but it will be for for games like bf2 and bf3 and some racing games i was looking at 120hz monitors

Thanks

Good choice on the toxic.

A little bit extra in cost, but imo it's the best 6950 to buy right now.

Toxic cooler, probably the quietest cooler that also vents out the back.

Unlocked shaders(not guaranteed to work) pre bios flashed!

It also requires one 6 pin PCI-E and one 8 pin PCI-E power connector but if the unlocked bios works then you have a custom cooled 6970!

Tremendous overclocker that can outgun the mighty 580@ stock:
