Im not sure if im losing it or not, but it seems like my screen is getting brighter then darker again at different times, bit like plugging and unplugging a laptop power cable..

Am I imagining things or is it maybe a windows7 feature.. or could it even be a lose connection or something?

Power saving include lowering clocks of graphics card and turning monitor of, desktop PC can't adjust monitor's backlight intensity. (adjusting "brightness of RGB signals" wouldn't save any power)

Could be some connection/contact... or then could be also your monitor showing signs of approaching "homestretch" before giving up the ghost.

Sure its not a feature of your screen? Quite a lot of screens have an option to dynamically change brightness based on external light levels. Likewise, are you sure its not the light in the room, day/night time, bright/dark day, specific lights on in the room or not which make the monitor seem darker/brighter but its just perception based on comparison to other light around it.

Basically there shouldn't be anything going on that changes brightness, but game profiles and things can change brightness also. I play lotro windowed, and when I turn up the gamma in game because its usually a little low, it overrides the rest of the desktop setting and everythings a little brighter also.

yea was thinking it could have been from in game gamma also, monitor is only a year old LG Flatron W1952S. Will have a look at the connections again in a while see if I see anything, this monitor uses a DVI adapter to so it could be that.
