hey is there any one out there who has has a single x1900 or x1950 card then baught a second?

if so how much performance boost did you get, in a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being not a lot,2 being reasonable performance increase, 3 being below double, 4 being double the performance, 5 being over double)

thanks

Id say between 1-2, its more like one and a half, or 1 and a bit with 2x cards, its just a gimmick, single cards for the win. :)

It's not that much of a gimmick anymore, the drivers are very mature and there are some good performance numbers being seen now.

It's silly (in MOST cases) to buy two cards instead of one if you're buying new. However if you're looking for a good upgrade then it's a perfectly valid and good path.

Iv'e had X1900 Crossfire, and yes its just a gimmick it dosnt work well at all imo, in some games i only saw increases of 10fps in some it worked worse than a single card and in others it didnt work at all, double card solutions avoid like the plauge, stay with a fast single card and overclock it! :)

I had a single X1900XT and added an X1950XT because I bought a 22" monitor and was worried about slowdown at 1680x1050.

With my X1900XT overclocked I scored 6200 3d mark 06, with my X1950 added I score 7400.

However, crossfire is supposed to help with higher resolutions more than lower ones (makes no difference to aquamark score which is running at 1020x768). In the CSS stress test (1680x1050) I got a significantly higher score (226fps) with crossfire than without.

Its worth noting that I have a gigabyte DS4 which restricts the second pci-e slot to only 4x so I have my performance hindered somewhat (one review said by around 30% in crossfire applications).

cool thanks.

226fps in the css stress test  wow

i get 107fps lol alltho i only have a single 7800gtx 256 at 1920x1200 resolution so it struggles. at my old resolution 1280x1024 i used to get 170fps tho. huge gap!

You can get upto 70-80% increase in performance in some games if you're using a high res, there's typically little benefit in using SLI/Crossfire at 1280x1024 or less.

It's impossible to score the performance increase as you request because it all depends on whether a game has been crossfire profiled or not,I've seen huge framerate increases in Oblivion and COD 2 for instance but some games such as 'Condemned' and 'BIA Earned in Blood' have shown very little,if any improvement at all.

The new 7.1 cats have supposedly added AFR rendering for all compatible games and so many unprofiled games should now benefit from crossfire,I'm yet to test them myself but I will be doing so over the next few days,i'll let you know of any improvements or not.

for comparative purposes, I get 5100 for an E6600 and X1950 Pro with 2Gb RAM, and I get 7600 with Crossfire enabled (whenever Crossfire works).

Not sure how it is with the latest 7.1 drivers, but Company of Heroes was worse with Crossfire enabled on Catalyst 6.12. As noted the 7.1 drivers enforce default AFR rendering, so this may get around this problem.

Only problem I've got is that Crossfire bombs out 95% of the time on my rig, whenever I run a 3D app.

Have posted in the ATI Crossfire thread with details and would appreciate any advice folks might have.

i too scored 220 fps in stress with test in crossfire 1680x1050 maxed out but now i have my card clocked up to xt-x i score 170fps adding another xt i would expect a lot more of an increase than just 50fps, this is worse in other games also

Crossfire and SLi are only really needed when running in really high resolutions like 2560x1600.
