Samsung and Hynix have already give GDDR4 samples to ATi and nVidia. The first GDDR4 graphic card is available in August as ATi Radeon X1950XTX.

Thats now. I want two.....

Is it not silly to spend such large amounts of money on an extremely high-end card when the new Direct3D version will make them obsolete in just a few months?

Ture, but why bother getting one of the first wave of dx10 cards when there'll be no/VERY few games to support it?? Its a hard call, I wouldn't do it, but some people have the cash to upgrade every generation. I'll be sticking with my x1800 till dx10 establishes itself and then I'll upgrade.

No as theres no need to get a DX10 card until about a year or more from now, when R600/G80 will be old hat as new faster cards would have been released by then, and there may actually be something other than Crysis, and Vista using DX10 by then so its worth getting a DX10 card for, id only get R600/G80 if you want the fastest DX9 card around, and the DX9 card you have doesn't cut it in DX9 games, which all the high end DX9 cards of today will do with ease, or get them if you have lower end like x8 series/6 series or less. :)

Like above my x1800 cuts through DX9 games with ease, so i wont be getting a DX10 card to do the same, but has the advantage of running an OS, and about 1x game in DX10, ill just play Crysis in DX9 mode, and get a DX10 card when DX10 is used more etc... as by that time loads of cards will have been and gone. :)

Anyone who is testing Vista will say the same. Even if Vista is released Jan 07 it will be 6mths before enough of the bugs are ironed out for games to start making full use of DX10 and by this time there will be a whole new line of cards out. JMO

But those new cards will run dx9 much faster shouldnt they. Probably will cost the same as well. personally i am waiting for those cards instead of splasjing out now.

dx10 cards wont run dx9 faster as far as im aware, if anything it will be slower as they it seems will have to run it in some sort of compatability mode.

:(

so dx9 for now i would say, then dx10 when the 2nd gen dx10 cards are made available

Exactly, welcome to the forums btw. :)

Well i'm going to buy a new gfx card at christmas so if the geforce 8800gtx whatever is fast and priced about the same as a 7900gtx now i'll probably get one.

nice one, not keen on the hottest comment though lol.

hope it isnt too hot.

I still wish card manufacturers would run some of their flagship cards with an external psu.

Now i dont mean like a brick that comes with the x360, think more along the lines of your router/modem adapter.

I wouldnt mind having to use an extra socket for peace of mind that my psu wasnt going to be upto the job or such. :D

I doubt it'll be too hot, HKEPC recently got hold of a production sample and it's got an amazing cooler on it. Hasn't the X1950 also had a die shrink or something?

Hi there

X1950 XTX is the same as X1900 XTX but has the following improvements. Approx 25-50MHz increase on core clock speed. 512MB GDDR4 running at 2000MHz and higher. Improve cooling solution as used on the HIS ICEQ3 cards.

The result is a card that performs 10-15% quicker than the X1900 XTX, cost pretty much the same as the X1900 XTX is now but is faster, quieter and cooler.

The X1950 XTX is the quickest single card solution even with performance to rival and beat the NVIDIA 7950 GX2 but all dependent on which game your playing etc. etc.

At 2560x1600 the X1950 XTX in Crossfire is approx 12% quicker than the X1900 XTX Crossfire which means that X1950 XTX Crossfire is even quicker than Quad SLi but cost a lot less money.

Product launch is August 23rd and OcUK is looking to have stock on August 23rd as well of X1950 XTX and X1950 Crossfire.
The lower price X1950 XT 256MB will not appear until end of September, so the X1900 XT 512MB's are your best bet for now as X1950 XT 256MB will be about same price as X1900 XT 512MB is now.

RD600 will be released when VISTA comes out, so were looking like a December-February launch all dependent on VISTA as its a DX10 enabled card. :)

Doesn't sound much of an increase 10%-15% over the x1900 XTX, certainly not worth the extra over it consideing now you can get the x1900's for £211, and these x1950's are supposed to be around £350+, thats over £130+ extra for a measly 10%-15%, what a rip, i can't really see the need to keep milking everyone with these speedbumped cards that are hardly any faster than the previous card, yet cost about £150 more.

They're not milking anyone, just an update, you'll pay just about the same for a slightly faster card in late august as you would have for an x1900 when they were released. Also x1950's might clock better. Nobody forces you to buy these and it's nice to have the choice.

Yeah i agree its nice to have a choice, and the x1950 will only benefit those with lower end cards, if you have an x1900 etc... already then i can't see a point getting a one, but there will be ppl with high end cards like the x1900 already that will as they have to have the top end card regardless, and thats why speedbumped cards with their measly increases come out all the time, as they know they are going to sell regardless, and they can milk us for some more cash. :)

The rate they release cards is ridiculous, were gona see about 5x DX10 games by Christmas 07 if were lucky, but by then there would have been about 4+ cards been and gone. :D

Your R600/G80 are gona be well old hat in a year. :o

That makes no sense!
Sorry but it seems good for the consumer of gfx cards that they are updated in this manner, would you prefer that ati just carried on charging the same for the x1900xtx for longer? If the x1900 wasn't about to be replaced i doubt the current reductions in price would have happened. Faster card for the same money what's the problem?
