Having just bought Oblivion and attempted to play the game at about 3fps on my current system, I'm now thinking of upgrading my ageing 3GHz P4 / 9800 Pro which has served me very well for the last 3 years or so :)

One of my biggest concerns is noise. My 9800 Pro currently has a whacking great Zalman heatsink on it which means that it is totally silent all the time. Obviously new cards won't work with that, so I'm thinking ahead and wondering if anyone here has tried an Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 cooler with a X1900XT or XTX? I put one of their earlier models on an X800 and was very impressed with the difference it made.

Also, does anyone have any idea when the next ATI product refresh is? I'd like to upgrade as late as possible ideally but I'm having itchy wallet problems at the moment :D

Cheers!

I can't find the link atm, but somewhere around here is a link to a comparison of the VF700, VF900 & the Accelero X2. Basically, it runs at the same level as the VF700 with (As far as I remember) more noise.
Stick a VF900 on it :D

The X2 has been known to heat up motherboard components due to the dumping of hot air.

Have a look at the Zalman VF900 which has in integrated heatpipe and very quite fan.

King.
