ATI X1950 Pro Crashing Problems (HELP)

I've just bought a Sapphire X1950 Pro from Overclockers which spends most of its time crashing the pc or displaying lines of small coloured squares and stripes over the image.

Its fine on the internet or playing basic games like Battlestations Midway,Chrome,Painkiller but anything graphics intensive will only play for a few minutes before the problem starts. The likes of FEAR,Stalker,Far Cry or Quake 4 are unplayable.Yet on my old NVidia 6800 they all played well even on medium/high detail.I've installed all the latest drivers for card and games, but no use.

I have a Tagan 480w 28amp PSU and wonder if its too weak.ATI say 450w is required so it should be ok.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with this card?.So far I'm not impressed with ATI,should have stuck with nVidia?

usually the sign of duff video ram i'm afraid. looks like it's overheating. rma time i'm afraid. :(

i think your psu is fine for that card so it's safe to rule that out. :)

yeah does sound like a card problem to me also. i take you havet overclocked it yet ?

Not yet,its just as it came from box.
I've just moved the sound card out of the way to give it good airflow and tried running ATITool.26,but as soon as I start it up the screen is covered in broken lines and the pc crashes. Its got so that I cant even play basic games without crashing,I think it needs sending back.
