Hi all,

Im considering in giving this ago, i understand that i cannot eat any carbs ( , :p ) but im sure if i can see the pounds dropping off i'll be happy :)

I just dont know what food to eat? Has anyone done/still on the Atkins diet??

It'd be great if someone with some spare time could knock up a table on what i should eat for the week as i dont have an idea on what to start eating.

Thank you :D

G

edit:

I fully understand what the atkins diet is - when the body enters Ketosis and uses the bodys fat as its fuel rather than the food (from carbs) as in Gordy's guide - i will be aiming to loose the weight, once that is achieved I will resume a diet that allows me to eat a well balanced diet.

Ive got the atkins book, and i full understand what im going to be doing - i just cant seem to develop a weekly food table.

I'd like someone if they could, to just make a standard eating plan for the week, just so i can get started - foods like egg, bacon etc (nothing too flash/complicated though :p)

your not supposed to stop the diet tho. you follow the book all the way, you dont finish a diet, you arrive at a mainenance stage where you have a diet that is relevent for your life at that time. If you just stop any diet and go back to what you were before then ofcourse you will gain weight again!

I just read that :)

I dont mind being on it providing I actually Loose weight, ive been on weight watchers and i end up acting like a yo-yo with my weight so If i loose more (even if i do have to sacrifice carbs) if i loose a good amount (aiming for 1 stone) then that will deffo give me the motivation to stay on it forever hopefully.

According to the book, you get 'used' to not eating carbs. Never knew about Rye bread though, thanks for that :).

As for loosing muscle mass I will still be doing pressups etc and small amount of weight lifting to maintain muscle mass.

Congrats :)

How long did it take you to get to 14 stone? Are you on a diet at the moment or are you on a normal eating but watching what you eat? [not going o.t.t]

Thanks
G:)

Im not going to be excercising like mad, but i walk for 30 mins in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening.

Sorry if i wrote it wrongly, i want more along the lines of food - all i know is Bacon and egg - i'd like some more exampls so i can 'expand' what im eating, then i can look into the recipies.

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

Cool :) Also how many calories are reccomended? I mean ive looked through the book quickly and i cant seem to find anything about calories - maybe im just not looking enough... but surley theres a limit because everyone would be on it if you could stuff yer face lol :D

I appriciate all your help guys, i really do!! :D

Thanks!!

IIRC Atkins isnt about calories, its about points
and u can have upto 20 points a day

IIRC, points is weightwatchers? ;) :D (i think so anyway)

It's neither about calories or points, and apples are a definate no....too much sugar in them.

The typical calorie intake for an adult male is in the region of 3000cals, on atkins you will use more calories digesting your food so you can get away with slightly more, maybe 3300.

This is the important difference with Atkins though, it not calorie controlled, it's burning fat which your body has stored away. The whole ketosis and introduction process is to start your body burning fat rather than sugar. All the carbohydrates are broken down by your body into sugars, what it doesn't need is deposited in store as fat for later use. If you eat no carbs, your body will burn this fat for energy. This is where the weight loss comes from, not from controlling your calorie intake.

There are two schools of thought on Atkins, one says the bruning of these fats leads to a lower cholesterol level, the other says the consumption of apparently fattier foods leads to higher cholesterol.......schools out on this as far as I'm concerned, make your own mind up from as much literature as you can find.
Now, stop being lazy Gangstah, and read that book all the way through, you'll actualy find soem really interesting dietary information in it describing how your body works.

So you're saying eat around 3000 calories ?? I thought men was 2500 daily...?
I'll stick around that area as a guide line, although IMO wont that be pretty hard as stuff like bacon eggs and all that are quite high in calories so it wont take long to get near ~2500-3000 calories right??

:o Maybe im just over-worrying, lol :D

I'll be on it very very soon, will be doing all the 'taking pictures before' and measuring everywhere to (hopefully) love the new me :D

Thanks,

G

Ok ive been looking at the net carbs / carbs and im onyl allowed 20grams a day right, but how exactly am i supposed to - not count what im eating, just eat till full (as says in the book) if ive got to keep track of the carbs/net carbs??

Can someone clear that up for me? Its saying eat until your full, then it says control the amount of carbs you have and dont exceed 20g.

You are allowed 20grams of carbs per day for the first 2 weeks (induction phase) Ive got the recipe book, but my point being you cant really eat until you are full (as i would nomally do) because there isnt really enough.

Im starting this tommorow, going to be hard work, but hey thats what dieting is all about. I'll post results next week so you guys can see how well im progressing on the atkins diet.

Thanks, Ive come across stuff like 100g of bacon is 0g carbs - does this mean if i have for example 500g of bacon it will still be 0g?

I am also considering HITT (i think its called) whilst on atkins.

Finally got round to going on the Atkins after getting all the bits.

Today I had:

Breakfast:
-3 Bacon Rashers
-2 Fried Eggs
-1 Cup of decaf coffee+splenda sweetner.

Lunch:
-Chocolate chip cereal bar
-1 Babybel
Had this because I cannot make anything for lunch, this is the best i could look for, usually its a bag of crisps and a sandwich..

Dinner:
-3 Fried Eggs
-1 Bacon Rashers
-2 Small Mushrooms cut up
-1 Cup of decaf coffee+splenda sweetner.

Is this enough to be taking?? Because i want to eat the right amount to loose weight. I dont feel hungry which i find quite un usual - but i dont know whether i am taking enough?? I also took 1 Multivitamin with some other ingredients in it that was reccomended by boots.

Thanks for your help!

Lunch it looks like ive got to have the same thing - the chocolate bar (its an atkins one) and a babybel.

Im planning on having chicken breast, with coliflour and brocoli.

Just to make sure, by taking this multivitamin im getting all the stuff that my body needs daily aren't i? Is there anything that my body is not getting? (Apart from the carbs :p)

That is what I had today ^^.

Im thinking of buying some sausagges to add with the eggs for the morning however im not that imaginative when it comes to creating meals :p.

Kitchen wise i have quite a good selection, however i want to keep the costs down, ive spent quite a bit already on bacon, eggs etc and dont want to be spending too much - So im afraid stuff like fresh tuna is out of the option, so that includes smoked samon etc aswell.

If you could reccomend some dinners or breakfasts which include ~ eggs, bacon, sausages than that would be good as they are reasonably cheapish. (Please remember i am on the 2 week induction phase and only allowed certain bits thx)

Thank you for your time. :)

G

p.s: I will look into them breakfast bars, as the atkins worked out at £1 a bar (5 in a box)

whoa thanks guys :D

Todays eating plan:

Breakfast:
3 Eggs (Scrambled)
2 pieces of bacon
1 small tomato

Lunch:
1 babybel
1 atkins chocolate bar

Dinner:
1 piece of cod
coliflour and a bit of melted cheese ontop.

I would just like to ask on some information on this birds eye frozen beef burger.

Details:

ENERGY - 490kj/120Kcal
PROTEIN - 8.5G
CARBS - 1.4G
(OF WHICH SUGARS) - 0.5G
FAT - 8.7G
(OF WHICH SATURATES) - 3.7G
FIBRE - 0.2G
SODIUM - 0.2G

Now I have calculated this to be a total of.... 0.7G (round up to 1 Net Gram).
I did this by; Carbs minus of which sugars minus fibre = net grams

Is this correct? If not I appricaite for helping me resolve this problem.

Buy Hot dog or frankfurter sausages.
Normal sausages are full of cereal which is full of carbs.
SCM said:
Also if there is a Tescos nearby look out for their premium made pork sausages/chippolatas as this range of sausages are very low in carbs.

Good advice this, look for the Herta Frankenfurters big packs of ten, they're often to be found on BOGOF in the supermarket....I usually buy 4 or more packs when they're on special, they keep really well, and zap in a few secs in the micorwave for a tasty quick breakie.

Also thanks for this :)

Thanks for that mate. :)

I got some hot dogs in a can (8) and from the calculation that i done it was near to 0 net carbs. It says 'port sausages in brine' and also is gluten free - if that helps.

Per Hot Dog:
Energy:227kJ
Protein: 2.8G
Carbs: 0.1G
Fat: 4.8G
Fibre: less than 0.1G
Salt: 0.5G

So i assume that is 0 net carbs per hot dog?

Thx,
G

Thanks for the information sadgeek....I bought 12x2l bottles of water today :) Will get me through niceley - although it is hard when my brother is gulping down the coke :p

I've lost so far 4 pounds, so thats definatley motivating me i understand it is only water weight - but im happy anyway. :)

so far I have had...

Breakfast:

3 Eggs (scrambled)
3 Bacon rashers
1 small mushroom
1 small tomato

Lunch (just now):
3 herta 'classic' hot dogs - they're nice! lol.
2 small pieces of cheddar cheese ontop (work out to be 0.1 net carbs per slice.)

Dinner:
Not too sure yet, maybe some chicken breasts or poached eggs (shame i cant have a big bowl of coliflour cheese :()

No probs.

Why not? Cauliflower is quite low carb, and makes a good "mash" for things like shepherds pie if you grate it.

Give it a try, you might be surprised :)

On the 2 week induction it says i can only have a "fist size" portion of coliflour :( wouldnt fill me up :p

thanks, will give some of them a shot :)

I was reading them Herta sausages, they have wheat fibre in them - im not allowed any type of wheat, is this anything to worry about? Please remember im on the 2 week induction!! If they are bad then i can easily go without them, i just thought i'd mention it as its on my mind and wont go till i ask :p

thanks.

Hi,

Ive been 1 week on the atkins diet now, and I have lost 4 pounds. I heard that it was supposed to be around 7 pounds (half a stone) but im not too overly bothered about that.

My mates are always eating sweets like starburst, and fruitella and I used to eat them too and i am really beginning to crave for them. Is there any suggestions as to something flavoured like that?

I am also missing Orange Squash, as during this week I have never drunk so much water in my life, and usually it is a lot of orange squash.

Also my breakfast's are getting a bit boring, I am fed up with eggs and bacon - every way they can be cooked. I never ate them before Atkins, except for the occasional Bacon sandwich - which i used to take the bacon out of it anyway...:p

I feel like a need some sort of cracker/bread to eat, as i just feel depressed at the moment :( I have thoroughly stuck to the atkins diet, and I have not done anything like - taken a sweet when i shouldn't have. Ive been strict with what im eating, and it is hard when i got my mum,dad and bro eating normally.

Any adivce/tips??

Thanks,
G
