Atlas OS: Windows without the clutter

Right now I prefer Windows 10 to Window 11. The new Windows Explorer looks fugly, the new Settings feels less efficient and looks more complicated than 10, file associations are a nightmare, the horrible right click menus.

Though, as Microsoft confirms 22H2 is the final Windows 10 version, I realise that I'm on borrowed time and should probably try to adopt. The biggies for me are Windows Explorer and Settings though.

I've really not gelled with 11 either - some stuff is a massive step backwards in usability and no amount of adapting changes that. I had a dual boot with 11 for testing on my laptop for awhile but pulled that, but have a Windows 11 to Go USB stick for testing still.

Have to say i agree, i know i have to make a master image but i keep putting it off as i just can't bring myself to deal with all the hassle.

I think I'm hoping, probably in vain, that Windows 12 will be announced and roll back some of the changes or at least make it easier to manage.

Sadly that is my hope - that Windows 12 comes along where they've replaced some of the developers with people who actually know what they are doing and make a decent OS. It makes me laugh every time I remember for instance that the start menu still doesn't have proper group management and decent built in customisation options (stuff which existed as far back as Windows 3 FFS).

EDIT: In case of confusion no Windows 3 didn't have a start menu (unless you implemented your own or used something like Caldera) but program manager had proper group management and a reasonable level of customisation of groups and group entries.

Before anyone says it, I'm not saying Atlas OS or any other modified ISO defiantly contains malware, i really don't have the time to go checking them all and this was the most recent thread about modified Windows ISO so this was as good a place as any. Having made an attempt to avoid people ire...
And that's why people have advised not to download pre-modified ISO.

I really don't understand why people bother with these hashed out ISOs under the guise of having a "snooping-free" OS or minus the clutter etc. If someone wants a clean OS, then there are plenty of open source ways to go about locking down a genuine Windows install without any risk like the potential that exists by installing a modified ISO.

Personally I don't use any such methods, never have nor will. Manually controlling and tweaking has always been the way and as a result I've never had to do a fresh install since Windows Vista. I still run the same install to this day, only in-place upgraded each major Windows version, then cloned over from HDD to SATA SSD to NVMe SSD each hardware upgrade.

latest atlas is pretty good. getting 20 more fps in all my games. i am running older hardware now. 8700k. btw its not a modded iso. it edits the install after you have windows 11 fully installed.
windows 11 with this installed reminds me of windows 7. its snappy as heck

I like the idea to **** windows (as they write on the website) and disable everything that is not necessary for gaming !
Because i have fedora for everyday tasks and my windows is only for gaming. So that's what i want

But if you use windows for everyday tasks, it's suicide i think

I don't care if it destroys my windows, its a 20 min time to reinstall and i can live without

I've always found that a stripped down version of windows always breaks at some point down the road and unpacking and installing the correct DLL's is a complete pain and when that doesn't work you end up having to reinstall a package suite and you just end up with a big chunk of windows back.
