Atom V8

What some of you fail to realise is yes its a lot of money, if you view a car as parts.
But in a price to performance perspective your paying 120k for a car that will nail ANY other road car near enough DEAD granted it goes only 200 ish but in terms if real world performance its got to be right up the top.

If you can get the power to the road. I'm sorry, but even with the various traction control systems I just don't believe that the car will ever remotely be considered "easy to drive".

And even if it was, doesn't that defeat the point? I thought these cars were supposed to be "pure" and balanced driving machines? This just seems powerful for powerful's sake.

It's not a jag, get over it:D I don't think its overpriced considering they're only making 25 of them and it's basically the most brutal thing you can buy. ever.

'Special' Limited editions don't work too well with massively depreciating assets like cars though, dare I say ...it doesn't really mean anything. It isn't a super exclusive Hyper car, it's just an Ariel Atom with a new engine ...painted gold. Fast it may be, it is what it is ...you could put an AMG V12 bi-turbo in an Astra and it'd just be a V12 bi-turbo Astra ...not a Pagani Zonda rival ...well it might be in speed but not in anything else.

Can't wait to see this in action. The shifting will be immense. Digital rev readout? Doubt a standard one will be able to keep up.

Westfield have done an Seight for ages which is going to be similar no?

Not really a new concept, light car, massive engine = go fast!

Nope not even close to similar other than they are both light cars with big v8's

It's a shame it's a flat-plane engine, and revving so high! ...it won't have much of a typical V8 character with an engine like that, needs to be cross-plane with half the rev limit.

What they 'should' have done is stick a Chevvy small block in there and stuck a super-charger on it. Much, much cheaper to :) ...these companies always have to over-complicate stuff. Yes, I really did just say that the Atom is 'over-complicated' :p

it wants a big lazy engine?? it needs something higher reving for more fun! so they built a highly tuned custom v8, i think thats why its more expensive. i know what your saying about the cheapness part of it, they could have used a turbo'd toyota engine or something.. think they decided to do it properly and looks to me like they did! cant wait to see it on top gear or something :)

I just think they've gone about this all wrong, not to mention the price is ridiculous.

Of course they haven't gone about it all wrong. The Atom is an ultra-lightweight trackday special, a high-revving naturally-aspirated engine suits it down to the ground, and is absolutely the right choice. A big lazy supercharged yank V8 is not the right place for this car.
