Atomfall

Was going to wait before getting this, but decided what the hell I'll pick it up now, DLC for Monster Hunter World is kicking my rear and I need a change of pace. Pretty decent opening to the game and you can have fisticuffs (:D) which is awesome, not got very far but already feels like a game I'm going to enjoy.

Put a good 10hrs in so far and its ok,

No idea what I am doing most of the time but enjoying finding my way around.

I had to follow a couple of guides to find out what I needed to do as I was back tracking everywhere.

I like that the game doesn't hold your hand, it gives you little clues in the forms of notes etc and then you have to work the rest out. Found quite a few caches so far, some through exchanges or notes with coordinates and others by just exploring. Combat early on is brutal, I'm trying to sneak around but the Outlaws have eyes like hawks and can see a mile off.

About 10hrs in, cant get the weapon upgrade skills as the trader with it is no more and the game is bugged so it doesnt appear where its meant to.. pretty annoyed about that.
Also had another trader die from the wasps so 2 maps now have reduced ways for me to trade.

I've got a rifle from somewhere that looks sorta like an SA80 with a crappy scope and its pretty much a distance 1 shot headshot machine, so thats nice :)

Played it for about 30 mins yesterday. Just killed everyone I came across, which probably isn't the developers intention but it's cool they let you do it, ha.

Same here. Lots of Welsh people with makeup on kept chasing me about so I killed them all.

I've just completed a story, mostly enjoyable.

Really like the exploration aspect, everything I've found has been through looking which felt very rewarding at times.

Towards the end bugs started to become apparent, part of a wall disappeared and so did a ladder, though it was still climbable.

The combat wound me up though, unable to block, dodge or even move quickly while the enemies always jump back and dive around.

Definitely worth playing but I'm not sure I could manage completing the other campaign stories.

Got the perk to upgrade weopans which I could have missed out on if it wasn't for hearing about it on the forums.

You certainly have to venture everywhere which isn't a bad thing.

I liked it so far - it's more like a British Stalker or Metro series game than a Fallout.

It doesn't try to hold your hand and runs very well. An RX6700XT/RTX3060TI will easily get 60FPS or more at qHD using no upscaling:

Regarding the graphics, it's an AA game developed by the studio behind the Sniper Elite series using their own engine.

It looks fine enough IMHO and in places can look pretty.

I fancy a British Fallout seeing as I never got Fallout: London to work

It has had some big updates which removed most of the bugs and also optimised performance a lot.

I think it looks pretty good, bit of shimmer in the distance especially on water though.
Noticed that the gun upgrade skills had unlocked even though I'd not done anything else to fix it, it's nice to have none rusty weapons but I have SO.MANY.GUNS in storage!

I'm nearing the end, have saved so I can do 2 of the endings if I want. I've a LOT of loose end quests to tie up so might do them but unlikely to chase all 6 endings.

Once you get over the graphics in the open parts this is actually a decent game. I'm finding myself getting more and more into the story as leads unfold and the lack of hand holding is refreshing.

Finished it last night, around 12hrs I think.
Only did 1 ending and watched the rest on YouTube as you can get pretty far before actually having to make a decision on who to side with.

I'd give it a 7 or 8, looks good, half decent story, some bad mechanics let it down though.

I really like the graphic style in the game, okay it's not using the latest techniques and the AA implementation allows for some shimmering on certain objects but unless I'm specifically looking for it I'd never notice it. Only 3-4hrs in so far and I reset once fairly early on but I'm really enjoying exploring the zones, bunkers and secrets hidden all over the place and it's a lot of fun trying to discover them.

And the game has gnomes......

Alright guess it's time to buy this then, TLoU Pt2 is out tomorrow as well so my weekend is kinda chock full of gaming it seems.

Growing up as a West Cumbrian 'living in the shadow', I'm very tempted by this.

Is there just a northern UK feel to the game, or does it have any of the real locales ?
