Attacks On Guide Dogs

I'm with Castiel on this one or its not going to get any better without some attempt at enforcement.

I know Staffs can be great dogs but i am pig sick of them or should i say their owners. 4 Times in the last 15 months my Labs been done by some dribbling drongo scumbag out with his chaved up scummy dog, each time drawing blood, 2 times a huge struggle to get the damm things off.

I feel genuinely sorry for the normal Staffie owners and used to feel a bit guilty when I go out my way to avoid their dog, but after the pain and suffering they've inflicted on my stupidly soft Lab who makes no attempt to fight back, i dont give a toss anymore. Much rather get a dirty look than a bleeding crying Lab.

I'm afraid responsible Staffie owners are very much in the minority, especially in Chavville towns such as the delightful one i live in.

Which is fine until the day that she doesn't.........or it is a child the Dog doesn't recognise or feel the same protective instinct over.

Yes, but the impact will be different depending on the breed. Dogs with very high bite strengths will do more damage.

Indeed, but the breed of dog will determine the consequences of the dog "having enough" or "not being in the mood"......

Just be careful, as like any Animal (or Human) their actions are not always predicable......

This really comes down to the old nature vs nurture argument.

Look certain dogs will have a disposition towards certain acts. For example my well trained Jack Russell becomes almost uncontrolable if he sees a rodent of any kind, they are bred to kill pests and that drive is so strong it's hard to overcome with training.

My Dogue De Bordeaux has a disposition towards guarding - Not in an aggressive way, more in a vigilant way. If she hears a strange noise she'll investigate, then patrol around the house to "secure the perimeter" and then return to laying down or come for a belly rub. Every breed of dog will have some form of trait like this, it's your job as a owner to ensure the dog is correctly socialised and raised to minimise any of these traits that could possibly become a problem.

With Staffies however their disposition is to please their owner, they will pick up whatever behaviour is displayed and mimic it in an attempt to please their master. Put them around a bunch of violent, agressive people and shock horror! It will be an aggressive dog. Same thing applies to children to a large degree.

a good tip with dangerous dogs is they do have weaknesses. grab them by front legs and pull sideways. will kill most dogs. they are also pretty useless if you get a hand around their throat as they cant use their teeth on you.

What? All that will do at best is dislocate or break the legs. At worst it puts your face very close to the dogs mouth. The bit with the sharp things in.

If you ever get involved with a dog attacking you dog then grab the offending dogs by the back legs and walk it like a wheelbarrow backwards in a circular motion. The dog will let go.

Maybe it's a myth but I heard it splits the heart.

It is a myth.....for one you would have great difficulty in pulling their legs to begin with and it is a fallacy that it splits their ribcage and stops their heart.....

Yeah. Its a myth. probably spread by people wanting other people to have their faces eaten whilst attempting it. Or because dogs have cartilage between their shoulder blades that can be damaged which can cause weakness in their front legs.

To be honest I don't think I'd be capable, what with a set of snarling gnashing teeth around the same area.
