Hi

Looking to attend silverstone gp this year for the weekend.

Been looking at a ticket at vale for the 3 days.

Hotels are extortionate so I've been looking at packages.

Seen one by ukbreakaway.com, I've never heard of them but for seem to get good reviews. They do a package for 3 days ticket in vale and a hotel (fri-mon) and transfers to and from the track sat and sun for £999pp.
If i booked the same hotel and get tickets my self its around £875pp but that doesn't include getting to and from the track. The hotel is also 1 hour from the track. I've not looked much but all local hotels are a several hundred per night.

Haven't been to a gp since I was a kid. Whats it like driving in to silverstone each day and anywhere else to look at for a package?

We're doing the MotoGP this year and hiring a camper to use on their camping ground. It's a lot cheaper than a hotel and the parties at night are apparently fairly decent too, might be worth a look.

If I've found the right package the hotel is 55 miles and 70 minutes by road on a normal day, so I'd guess it would take over 2 hours and finding parking within a sensible distance of the circuit would likely be difficult to impossible and a crazy price. A better bet would probably be to use the park & ride or shuttles from rail stations - there seem to be quite a few details here: https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/formula-1-british-grand-prix/getting-here

Vale is an uncovered grandstand, so expect to be cooked and/or drenched and cold. We were in the uncovered Farm Curve stand the first time we went, and since then have spent a bit more for the covered grandstands (away from the edges). This site is pretty good to show what the view is from each stand - https://oversteer48.com/vale-grandstand-silverstone/

Camping is a good option if you're willing to slum it for a couple of nights - we've tried Woodlands and the Golf Club, and both are about as close as you can get to the circuit but like everything else they aren't cheap and get booked up early.

Hope that helps a bit. Our tickets are booked and we can't wait!

Its about an hours drive and a coach transfer so shouldn't need to worry about parking up but don't know where they drop you.
Im going with my dad who's fit for his age but over 70, not sure he would be up for camping for a couple of nights really.

Was looking at vale as you have a good view of the last complex and close to the podium

I've seen dadford road camp site which is other side of the road to woodlands campsite. £210 for thurs to Monday, will see what my dad thinks

Ah OK, I thought you were considering driving all the way. Fair enough on the camping - I'm not sure I'll be going back to airbeds in a tent again if there's a choice.
Vale should be a good spot to watch the race from. I think most of the car parks and drop off points are on the west and south side of the circuit, so would guess it might take 20 minutes to walk to Vale plus however long it takes to get through the gate security.

It turns out my cousin lives in Bicester right opposite the park and ride and we are able to stay at his for the weekend with is a great result.
We will just need tickets and park and ride booking for the weekend!
