Has anyone got any links to what I need to download etc? I've had a quick search but it appears you can download XMBC or Firecore flash? What's the difference and why is flash $30? Is it worth the money?

Thanks

Have they managed to come up with a reliable untethered version yet as last time I checked the latest software was proving difficult to crack?

mine is untethered but i believe im running the previous ios version to the latest.

dont really need the latest when all i run on mine is XBMC.

Untethered = can reboot whenever you want
Tethered = Need to jailbreak every time it restarts (so connect upto your PC and and click the boot tethered option)

Nightly build is the very latest build they have done, often updated every day or two. Could fix an issue but create a new one.

You could just get a media player that takes the files off a USB drive.

You haven't played with XBMC have you? :)

It's so much more than a USB stick player.

ATV2 is great for iTunes/Airplay/trailers/YouTube etc.., but XBMC on an Apple TV2 is the balls. Having both is the icing on the cake.

Map drive using Samba over wifi, and you've got a fully fledged media centre that uses 6w of power at peak and is completely silent. All for the princely sum of £99.

But the wd tv live can do that also :)

I got an aTV2 for xmas, jailbreaked it that day and installed XBMC but haven't played around with it too much since then as had to be social and see the family/girlfriend etc. Is XBMC the best to use compared to Nito Player and firecores ATV flash black?

It seems the flash black integrates more into the main menu's rather than launching a seperate "app" as such.

Also any other killer add on's to use?

EDIT: i'm on 4.3 untethered, luckily it came like that out of the box. Primary use is connecting to my NAS which has seperate shares for TV and Movies which XBMC has picked up (and downloaded the cover art and title names for each TV series which is awesome!)

I got my ATV2 for Christmas also, will I need to do a tethered jailbreak or will unteathered work? Its to go in my living room so teathered is going to be difficult, although I can leave it powered on I suppose.

Should I check my version perhaps and see which method I need to use?

It depends on the software version. 4.3 will be untethered, the latest will be tethered. i'm not 100% sure myself with the aTV but its a learning curve. Absolutely fine when it comes to iPhone and Macs though!

After a lengthy play with xbmc tonight I can indeed say it is awesome. Once you have found a skin you like, got it scanning your drives and downloading the media data it is great. All my films now have plots/length/ratings and cover/fan art associated to it as well as my tv series I have backed up.

Brilliant device once jailbroken and played around with :)
