Why are there so many cpu sockets

I just bought an asus ramp III which has two 8 pin EATX sockets, so I think better check my psu, corsair HX1000

My Psu has the option for two 8pin EPS plugs, but my current mother board has an ATX 8 pin socket so now i'm thinking right whats what here????

I look at a drawing of a an EATX socket and see that my EPS (or is it an ATX ) plug will fit (I think, well at least with squares and houses)

So please can someone just clarify what the hell this is all about???

I have an corsair HX1000 Psu it has two 8 pin cpu plugs (one modular) will it plug into my new mother board without setting fire to it me the dogs and the wife and child who would be upset cus He's playing black ops.

Or has it just turned into a 1000watts of uselessness:rolleyes:

Cheers

EPS is a term for 8pin afaik. if youve got two 8pin's then they will go into the two 8pin eatx sockets. You wont need them both plugged in though most likely, although if you can, then you may as well.

If you want a 100% confirm, id just email corsair and they will tell you. Or wait for someone who is willing to check both products on the spec sheet and tell you :)

Cheers buddy I might chuck them a mail just to be sure unless someone else would like to confirm,

But to be honest with you ch3m1c4l I think your spot on from the reading I have done thus far, so cheers for the reply
