I sold my brother's Leeds Festival ticket through a well-known auction site last week (£175). The buyer paid through paypal and I posted recorded first class delivery the next day.

The item hasn't arrived (the tracker on the RM website just says 'accepted' at my post office) and the buyer obviously also says it hasn't arrived.

Obviously the buyer will want to claim through RM/Paypal for their money. However I have posted the item and have proof of doing so (receipt of postage, sent recorded, plus I've emailed photos of the receipt to the buyer).

What happens when the buyer makes a claim? Am I going to lose out despite the fact I've got a receipt and sent it recorded?

You sent something worth £175 first class recorded? I'm sure the insurance for that is only roughly £30, bit silly.

Last time my mrs had something lost in the post they sent her a book of 6 first class stamps.

The thing is, I offered 2 posting options in the auction:

£3 - first class recorded
£5 - first class special delivery

and the buyer picked the first.

As said and I am sure you really dont need to hear this but it should really have been sent Special Delivery. For the cost of £3.50 or there about's it saves all this milarky.

Chances are he will probably claim through PayPal but if possible I would try and get something done about the ticket such as getting it voided. I don't do 'tickets' etc so not sure if this is an option but would at least shoot someone up the arse should they try and pull a fast one.

Ninja Edit: Probs pick the first for this very reason mate :(

It's 100 x the price of a first class stamp, standard compensation.

Silly boy for sending recorded and not special

Well then they have no argument, they have to claim whatever they can, nothing you can do about it tbh.

Is it still a fail if I gave them the option which they didn't take, though?

yes, it is your responsibility to get it there.
Never send anything with out signature and insurance unless you can and are willing to take a hit.

I would email him and ask for him to wait for the post tomorrow.

all the evidence shows that it did get there though doesnt it ?

Nope. it only says accepted according to OP. Which is they have it booked in at the post office he sent it at, it should be the date OP sent it. It should say delivered/signed for or something. It looks like it hasn't got there for what ever reason.
If it's been 7 days unlikely to turn up either.

yep recorded is £39

you really shouldn't have offered that as a method of postage

if it has gone missing Paypal will refund the buyer from your funds and you will get £39 from RM
