I'm selling something of high value at an auction, and i've set a reserve price. I've had an email from someone asking me for an indication of the reserve. Isn't this meant to be sort of secret? Else it would just say the reserve price on there right?

Would you disclose it?

firstly - reserves are totally pointless and a waste of money

secondly - why would you not tell them? im assuming as you put a reserve on, thats the amount you would be happy to accept. by telling them, it saves them the effort of bidding in your item not knowing what the reserve is. if you tell them, they will know whether they are prepared to pay that amount or not, and can decide whether to bid on yours, or look elsewhere

Nah the reserve is just what you wont accept less than.. Anything over is what you are happy with but not expecting to gain.

If you tell them they might make you an offer, the auction will always start lower than the reserve anyway but not much lower.

If i dont stand corrected.
