Hello, guys, I'm looking to purchase my dreamed car (I've fallen in love with it when my father took me for a driven 15 years ago). I'm not an expert car guy who knows ins and outs of the car, yet for all the cars I owned regular service was a must (oil, filters, brakes timing chain/belts, suspension, tires, etc was repaired/replaced when needed).

Thus my question what are common faults and issues on Audi 80 convertible v6 2.6l or 2.8l motors? This would help me a lot in inspecting the car when purchasing.

Additionally, repairs i.e. timing chain with tensioners inc water pump, is it an expensive job (I believe you need to take the engine out to change it?)? Also repairing the hydraulic roof anything to look out for when shopping? (I attempted to call around but no local garages were able to quote an approx price/ worst-case scenario without seeing the car so could repair get pricey?

Thank you in advance for any help. I would love my dream to come true but I'm not in a rush to purchase and fix up as long as my goal is achieved.

My aunt has had one since new: the only expensive repair they had to pay for was replacing the entire roof mechanism and fabric. She said it was a total nightmare as most Audi dealers don't really want to work on them anymore and parts are hard to find. She does live in France though, so it may be easier in the UK.

For proper advice I'd recommend searching for an Audi specific forum: they're pretty rare cars nowadays so I don't think you're likely to find many people on here who have one. Whilst some may have owned them years ago, owning one then would be a very different proposition to owning one now.
