Audi A2, any good?

Begging the question where did all these 'faulty' A2s people are banging on about come from? is it a case of I heard it from a mate whos uncles friends cousin read an article in some obscure magazine translated to english about them that said they suck? Surely only actual owners or people with first hand experience should give advice in such threads, else its all just a bunch of conjecture which tbh most motors threads seem to be.

like i said in my post, my mum owned one. It wasnt a nice car to be in.. but that is my opinion, and hers, and my dads, and my gfs.

Well, my wife and I have had our A2 for @ 3 years now, and I have to say its a great car. 1.4TDi 3Cyl. Tax is £35 per year. Economy is excellent. Comfort is good. Its ok on long-ish run, but in the cities and towns is where it belongs. Its great, but it is sooo light, that strong winds to tend to push it around a bit.

Would I have another one - without a doubt.

In fact I'm looking at our little blue A2, and its smiling back at me.

The electrics on my dads started to play up, the headlights wouldnt work, his is a 51 plate 1.4 TDI.

Cost him a fair bit to have sorted, but its been alright since then, has taken it around Scandinavia etc without any problems.

The ride isnt the last word in refined but its not terrible, you can get 4 adults in quite well considering the size of the car as the floor seems lower in the rear.

Some of the alloy wheels suffer from corrosion problems, again my dads has the chrome bling 15" ones and they lifted, he got another set off ebay and has ended up putting up with it and just using the best 4.

Door hinges have a fatigue issue where it bolts onto the spaceframe.

Clever little cars though, considered one as the family chariot a while back as the boot is as big as the Focus.

That reminds me, the drivers door needed repairing a couple of months ago. It started off by making a noise when opening or closing it, then eventually didnt close at all. I wonder whats next to go wrong with it
