With all this talk of the a3, it might be a good time to ask the question on my mind :)

i will be changing car in the new year and a 04 a3 3.2 will be in the price range, looks nice in dolphin grey, s-line trim, 18/19" wheels

question is tho, is this a good car? i realise it isnt an s3 or r32 rival, but i love a nice interior and the v6 coupled with quattro should give a decent enough drive?

The 3.2 is, well, ok. It's a good car, but it's a little nose heavy handling wise, drinks fuel like it's going out of fashion and is quite pricy to run, although they do depreciate well which means they are a good second hand buy. THe big advantage is you can have both quattro and DSG if you want (something you can't with the 2.0T).

If it was me, and I wasn't worried about DSG, I'd probably go for a 2.0T S-line quattro instead.

My second TT had the 3.2 engine - not that impressed. As Dolph says, it's nose heavy and pretty heavy on fuel.

But the DSG was great. :)

When I initially drove it I didn't like it becuase I was comparing it directly to my 530i. Now, that wasn't particularly helpful to most people but it probably is to you, given you'll be changing from a 530i.

It simply wasn't as good. I didn't like the handling as much, the steering was far more numb, the build quality on the interior was simply not the same (And was what lead to my initial opinion that the build was dissapointing) and my 530i simply felt like a far better car when I got back in and drove away.

It was, however, fast. Easily as quick as the 530i. Perhaps more so, but there was more of a sense of speed so whether it actually was or not I don't know.

It is simply not as good as your current car and, IMHO, is a downgrade.

exactly the feedback i needed fox, back to alfa gt v6 and nissan 350z hunting!

ill still end up with another bmw tho :o:p

I think you'll end up with something like a 330Ci, as cliched as that may be on this forum, simply becuase you'll find yourself being fussy about things when you get in, say, the Alfa.

I'd say the 330ci is better than the 3.2 V6, though an 04 A3 will be around £11-14k? and for the same year 330 they are around 18k+ for a decent one.
