audi a3 remap or not?

I think I'll get a gigantic 11bhp from remapping my RS 200. To be fair, it's so highly strung, I'd rather not do anything to it anyway.

I remember looking for my 330i, M54 engine. Almost no gains there either.

I'd be surprised if you even got 11bhp tbh.

Superchips rate a remap gain of 12bhp and 16nm.

The NA RS Clio range are not cars you buy for engine modding in mind. A guy on 197 net dropped a 250 Megane lump into an RS Clio 200 body. Not something I'd do, I'd rather just buy a Megane 250, to each his own though.

50bhp more from a 1.6 diesel with a simple remap?!?

If that's true then that'll transform the car.

How long the injectors, dual mass flywheel, clutch, and turbocharger will last, mind you, is another story...

To be fair, most vag lumps put out more HP from the factory than quoted on the spec sheet! If you go to celtictuning.co.uk you can see the plot there.

Standard power 112.7hp and remapped 153.8hp.

You raise a very good point about the turbo flywheel and clutch though. The chocolate pressure plate is the only thing putting me off doing my 2.2!

Like I said I'm not after that kind of power as my partner may need insured so a 2l 200bhp car is going to cost too much for her. Just a small boost is all I'd like.

You realise that a remap has to be declared to insurers and as such it might be cheaper to insure a 2.0l car anyway.

FWIW, 200bhp isn't an unmanageable amount of power :p

Small engine n/a petrol it won't doo much.

Good gains come with turbo motors, hence why they are popular with turbo diesels.

The biggest gains are in improved power and torque curves, more responsive feel generally. you don't really remap to get more peak performance.

I honestly wouldn't bother on that car, the 11bhp gain is peak output.

Indeed - remaps rarely get appreciable increases out of an NA vehicle. The gains are generally a result of boost (turbo) increases and variations in the powerband, i.e. how the power is applied. Personally I'd be looking at moving to a 2ltr simply because you'll get better low down torque than that 1.6. It doesn't need to be a turbo. It's not as flash as your Audi but maybe have a look at one of the new Ford Focus Sport or Titanium models. NA, all the bells and whistles including a decent stereo, satnav, cruise control, a pretty decent chassis, masses of boot space and still pretty reasonable economy. The only hurdle is getting past the looks :p

superchips remap for your is 6bhp gain which for the price considered you wont feel any benefit. It would probably be just as good getting all the filters, plugs and leads changed instead

Exactly, and that's probably peak power, that peak bhp & torque might be moved slightly more into the useable rev range, but still, you'd hardly feel the difference.

You could improve it more by fitting a good air filter and a full exhaust system, Inc manifold, but the ££'sound add up quickly for relatively little gain. The short painful answer is get a faster car.

There is pretty much no point chipping an n/a petrol engine unless it's for competition and you need that tiny edge.
