Some **** ripped the wing mirror of my gf's car earlier in the week.

We have had it replaced at a cost of £230. (£170 of which was to replace the broken part.)

The problem is the garage couldn't get the electrical 'fold in' function to work. (and later I found out the auto-dimming function!) It seems the motorised glass adjustment is moving, but nothing else.

This smells a bit like a fuse blown issue to me. I have looked online and in the user manual for the fuse that is for the wing mirrors, but it doesn't seem to be documented.

Does anyone know where the fuse if so I can check if it's blown?

If it isn't the fuse it's likely to be the control unit mounted behind the door card. Does anyone know about the electrics for the wing mirrors as I am without schematics? I will be out with my meter over the weekend to check for basic stuff, but without a diagram I am quickly going to get stuck!

Sounds like they've put the wrong, or possibly a faulty part on - a bog standard mirror will be cheaper than a folding/dimming one, and is more likely to be available as a pattern part.

Could be a fuse, but I doubt it. The wiring could have been damaged, but usually the mirror has a lead that connects inside the door so if the mirror gets damaged it won't touch the wiring on the car.

Given you've paid top dollar to have the mirror replaced, I'd get it straight back and tell them it's not working and let the garage sort it out.

They've probably fitted the wrong mirror, the version without folding/dipping is much cheaper than the one you had previously. Did the replace the whole unit and glass?

The glass was fine from the old mirror. The garage rang me to tell me they couldn't get the fold in function working. I think by paying for it and driving it away it's a bit late to take it back?

I am more than capable of looking at it myself, but I don't have access to the eletrical schematic and the fuse list doesn't say anything about door mirrors, only the internal auto dimming mirror.

I am aware that there is a controller in the door, which might have been damaged when our vandal friend snapped the mirror off.

I was just wondering if anyone knew which fuse it was in case it's simply that.

What year is your A3 and which engine does it have? I have some diagrams here.

Auto dimming function is usually controlled from the interior mirror, from memory I think there's one single cable running from the interior mirror to each of the external ones.

It's an 05 plate. 2.0 TDi

It's full title is something like Audi A3 Sportback Sport 2.0TDi DSG. Pretty sure it's the 140 bhp version.

Don't waste your time doing this yourself.
If all of this has been done at a main dealer, take it back and demand them to fix it properly.

This all seems like a massive waste of time. Its crying out that they've most likely fitted the cheaper/wrong non folding/dimming part. Just take it back.

If you start messing around with it yourself you will have no recourse.
