Or it could fill the... 3 Series Coupe category! It's the biggest Coupe market in the UK, how could you not think it was for that? Audi don't have another premium 4 seater coupe...

I think people get confused because BMW keep it all under 1 name. 3 series saloon, 3 series coupe and so on.

Audi use the A4 and A5 to compete.

I don't understand the A5 Sportback either, it's just a ever so slightly longer and slightly better looking A4. Surely it's going to kill A4 sales as everyone will want a 5 door A5 (unless company car tax or something means the A5 costs loads more?).

No, because in the premium sector, hatchback is a dirty word.

I think the hatchback A5 looks like a train wreck. I'd rather have an A4.

The coupe A5 on the other hand is fantastic.
 
I dont mind the looks of the car but there naming structure and target markets are confusing.

It must fill a hole somewhere or they wouldn't have bothered making it.

This is a HATCHBACK Audi. Just like your Audi A3 Sportback is a HATCHBACK. Just like your Audi A5 Sportback is a HATCHBACK, like a Ford Mondeo.

Changing the word 'Hatch' for 'Sport' is comical.

Like "Touring" instead of "Estate" and "GT" instead of....erm....
 
I like it too, the rear looks nice imho...

Cars like this are made for people like me ( if I'd have the money).

No matter how much I love the looks of a 4 door saloon and a coupe car, I can't help to think ''where are the rear doors?'' ( coupe) and ''bah such a big car yet useless boot''.

I'm all for big saloon shaped hatchbacks. looks+ practicality combined.
