Hi All

Just been having a chat with my mate, and wanted some general advice. He has an Audi TT - 2004 1.8T Quattro. He bought it from an Audi dealer about a year ago, and it was thoroughly inspected with their Audi used-car thingie, and had warranty on it.

He got a puncture today, and went to replace one of the rear tyres - nothing abnormal there. However, he has found out that the two front tyres are some weird brand called 'Scuda' and something else on the other tyre.

Just thought this was very strange, and surely Audi approved used cars should all have the manufacturers recommended tyres on them, when sold ?

Any thoughts ?

He has had the car a year and has only just noticed this? Why didnt he notice it when he gave his tyres a quick check every so often, or when checking his tyre pressures?

He's been very busy with other stuff , and work . . . .

But, surely the car should not come with some el cheapo brand tyres from an Audi dealer ?

Yes, sometimes they do. It's too late for him to do anything about it now.

And I'm sorry but nobody should be 'too busy' with other stuff to check tyre pressures. He'll need to be very unbusy if he has to spend a few weeks in hospital recovering from a blowout due to underinflated tyres or tyre failiure. It takes 2 minutes, literally!

If my Audi buying experience of late is anything to go by, I am amazed the thing had tyres on it in the first place. I have found them pretty lacking in some areas, and utterly incompetent in others, and that is more than 1 dealer! Both cars were less than satisfactory when collected from the showroom, both had niggling problems, both had been poorly prepared and since then both dealers have made up prices for servicing, failed to get a loan car ready when agreed, causing a 30 minute delay, and generally not given a flying **** about their customer. Don't even start me on their finance team, 2 months in and they still haven't set up a direct debit, and that after I had their finance eejit spend 10 minutes telling me how he was the expert and I quote, <david brent on> "this is what I do" <david brent off>

Just glad he never chose airline pilot as his vocation in life, though I hear he might have taken a job as a 777 fuel filler!

My mate works at Audi, he says they often fit rubbish cheap tyres to cars.

They did it to mine; P Zero Rosso's the most cheapest nastiest tyres you could fit on an A3!! That's a joke btw they're good tyres.

I can only say that they either fitted it with cheap tyres because the others were bald or the previous owner did it and Audi afaik don't have rules on tyre brands.

Unfortunatly he should have checked the tyres and everything in detail, I never did this when I had my car but luckily I never got problems with that aspect.

Whenever you get a car or get it back from insurers/dealers, etc check it thoroughly you may find a few surprises.
