Can someone tell me the major differences between the Audi S3 previous to Nov 2001 210 BHP model, and then the new one 225BHP. Were their any reliability issues with the older model?

Going to look at this one. Do you think the miliage is high, what can I expect from it. Would keep it for around year to two.

The 225 engine actually supposedly has weaker internals than the 210, I cant remember specifics, but there is a thread about it on seatcupra.net.

Milage isn't particularly high, mine is on 61,000 miles now and nothing has gone wrong yet, although I envisage having to change the waterpump soon as most people do around 60-65K.

That milage is nothing, don't worry about it.

As for internals, I think it's something like one model has 19mm con rods, the other has 20mm con rods. No idea which length is in which engine, and why one is better than the other though :)

I think the 225 S3 has variable valve timing.

I have the 225 version and when I did my research there was not much difference between the two. Awesome cars, very refined, high quality interiors and great performance without being overly stated.

210 report here.

More info here.

Seems a bit steep for a 5yr+ old car, you'd get a much newer LCR for that money (or a CTR)

I'd take the Audi though ;)

Lovely cars, a mate has recently bought one. A possible replacement for mine. :)

(Not to clued up on the differences sorry, I haven't looked into them that much yet. Though I have heard something similar to what paradigm said...)

Same engine as used in the TT 225bhp model and the Leon Cupra R. Not sure how good the engines are but for £12k I'd buy the Cupra R, probably the faster of the 3 (can't check cos im at work!) and it will probably hold its value better. You don't get AWD though, so it's a coin toss really. Cupra looks better imo.

S3 will hold it's value better compared to the price he'd pay now I'd have thought (they've already taken the massive hit, they were not cheap new!).

Thank you

I bought my 210Bhp 2001 S3 back in September and so far sooo good. No reliability issues specific to the 210 1.8T that I'm aware of, but if you have any doubts best bet is to get go to Audi Sport.

Price seem about right.

Good luck.
