Whats everyones opinion on these? Seem pretty cheap for a reasonably good looking premium 4 seater 'sports car'.

Nice to have the extra seats and boot is pretty good from what I've heard, good Audi build quality and reliability I would assume so what's not to like? Any gruff engines in the lineup? Getting on a bit now but don't seem a bad alternative to a Z4 or RX8 etc....?

I've heard the left hand drive ones are real bargins if you can get hold of one and obviously best to stay away from Rovers in bodykits to look like the TT.

you looking to buy one?

left hand drive anything is cheaper than right hand in this country, thats to be expected ;]

I'm not no, I was with a friend today who pointed one out to me and asked if I liked it and said he was going to buy one. I didn't really have anything to say as I've never really heard anything good or bad about them, other than typical Audi stereotypes such as boring and good build quality.

The new ones are fantastic things to drive, my mum had the mk1 coupe and now has a mk2 convertible, the old one was pretty rubbish to drive and hers had horrible torque steer and generally felt really unsettled. Still very nice place to be though.

Mum has had 3 convertible mk1's and never had the problems you describe :)

I really want a Mk1 Coupe, I dont know the version, but they have black roof's... Lovely cars!

Odd that you mention a lefty TT today as I was waiting for the bus (public transport :() today and saw a lefty hard top one, on UK plates, seemed odd to me. :/

Rear seats are useless in a TT, passengers will end up with hunch backs....

I don't think he was too bothered, whatever car needed 4 seats but the back 2 would only be for 15 minute journeys and taking drunk mates home. Boot needed to be able to fit a standard suitcase which I assumed it would?

Meantioned LHD's as it was in Autocar a few weeks ago how much of an uber bargin a LHD TT would be.

If short journeys for drunk mates and a suitcase in the boot are your requirements then the TT fits the bill quite nicely.

The rear seats are ok for very short journeys, but you really don't want to be using them for more than that. The boot is surprisingly big, I managed to fit suitcases and skis in mine.

When the TT wasa first announced it launched in Europe first and people were so desperate to get them early ones were imported LHD. When the RHD was released in this country, values plumetted of the LHDs.

why? you can remap the 180s getting them close to 225 iirc.
so cheaper car for the same thing.

180bhp 1.8T's tend to remap well to around 210bhp with a nice increase of torque low down.

Thing is if remaping is your bag you could get the 225 with k04 turbo (doesn't run out of puff like the ko3s in the 180) and take it up to 260 ish.

Now I don't like the look of the old TT's that much, but saw one recently that looked like it either hand a carbon fibre roof / spoiler - or they were painted in a gunmetal colour. Contrasted so well with the silver bodywork and gunmetal deep dish alloys.

edit - I see this wasn't custom and were actually produced?

I believe that the version with the black roof is 240 bhp as standard. It was one of the last ones produced. The seating is different too.

I don't know why but they have always struck me as a girly car, not a woman's car either, a girly car. That isn't to say I think they are bad cars or anything.
