Audi vs BMW vs Mercedes

thanks for all the advice

car is for my old man

I would have thought mercedes is more mature/old man style

am I right in guessing those who go for the Beema are younger? :)

why does age have anything to do with giving the best option for the 3 you have listed :p
whether you are 18, 30 or 75, the fact is the BMW is the better car :p

Nicer interior, nicer to drive having driven both i prefer the audi and would have one every time.

I dont care what end the driving wheels are at, it makes no difference in real world driving in the UK (or any other country) as we are so limited in what we can do on the roads, if i want fun i have a comp car, if i want to safely and comfortably move my family about my choice is the audi.

Each to their own, but most Audi's are not a patch to drive compared to most BMW's and that has a lot more to do with other stuff than which wheels are driven. They are also not as comfy on long distances, not as well damped when running sports settings and feel vague. The interiors look better but newer Audi's have gone down hill on this front too, not least the A4 and A6.

I could give or take 95% of what Audi produce. I just look at them and think VW, which makes me want to vomit. :)

BMW on the other hand - the handling and balance and enjoyment is dialled in right from the factory even in the bottom of the range stuff.

This. Audi A4's are the second step of Rep Mobile ahead of the Mondeo/Avensis crew. The BMW is just better, simple as.

Audis are generally gash and again, in my eyes do not deserve to carry the prestige title they claim to warrant. S8 aside :)

I'm not fanboying as I'm considering an AMG C63 for my next car but BMWs are very very hard to beat, certainly by the likes of Audi anyway.

If you want bland go Audi.

Interesting. I recently went on a 2 - 3 hour journey in a 3 series BMW and found it incredibly uncomfortable. The seats were hard and it made me ache / go a bit numb. Having said that I'm not sure if it was a 'sport' interior as the seats were half leather and not full leather.. would this make them firmer?

Anyway for the first time I have travelled any distance in a BMW it left me seriously unimpressed! I was actually glad to get back into my Rover when I was dropped off at the office! :p

Yet audi are generally regarded as the one of the best built cars, even moreso than BMW, and no, i'm not being a fanboy either, i'd easily consider a BMW as my next car as they have the better engines. But i'd rather be sat inside an Audi than a BMW (of similar specs), moreso the A6/ A8.

People do seem to disagree about the seats a lot between these, and from the people I have spoken to on the whole they prefer the Audi for comfort and ride.

I drove the A4 2.5 TDI down to the french alps and found it a very good drive all the way and had some fun doing the twisty road to the resort. It is a solid car.

I drove a BMW 320 D (I know smaller engine and all but regardless of power) the level of comfort was far less and I found myself having to take more breaks as the seats were disappointing to say the least. It did not have some magical set-up for cruising this distance on motorways which made it more enjoyable and neither was it any more fun on the twists and turns up the mountain.

Just my 2p. I am not a fan boy of either, but like people to try both out as everyone wants something different from there driving experience.

Hi what makes twist and turns more fun then?

IMO there is no point in asking on these forums because its full of fanboys, just go out and test drive them for yourself and decide.

psd99 My point was that for these cars I found them very similar, and I do not know the type of driving you will be doing in them. Will you be flying along B roads all day long or will you be cruising along motorways everywhere you go. I personally found little difference between the two cars in driving feel.

I was trying to encourage you to try them instead of taking the heavy BMW bias that can often be found here.

Also I find that the seats on a car to be very important part of the experience and the BMW to be worse than that of the Audi. I would need to stop every 2 hours in the BMW as it just was not comfortable. The Audi was good all day long for anywhere between 3-4 hours.
