Audio Lag

I'm wondering if this system isn't compatible or whether I could try a different connection configuration?

Yamaha RS202D
Samsung UE55NU8000

The only 2 connection options I seem to have are optical or Bluetooth but both are experiencing audio lag. I'm using a DAC convertor with the optical connection (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MB8VCWQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share).

Am I doing it wrong or are these 2 just not going to play nice? I know the Yamaha AVR is a budget unit so maybe that's the issue i.e. lack of connectivity options?

The problem is within the TV. It's a signal issue to do with the way the TV unpacks the AAC audio stream for Freeview and/or how it handles DD5.1 to stereo conversion.

Lots of people are in the same boat. This has reas.red its head as we migrated to UHD 4K TV. I suspect its partly in connection with the time it takes for picture upscaling to UHD display res.

Possible solutions:
For external sources such as Sky or Virgin Media or external Freeview/Freesat PVRs and games consoles, make sure the sources are set to give a stereo PCM signal rather than Dolby Digital 5.1

Something else to try is switching off any HDMI control features in the TV.

It's been frustrating, I've not been able to eradicate it. I'm watching via sky box and native TV apps. The last thing to try here is an optical cable direct from sky box to the AV unit but I'm not holding my breath.

I've been considering upgrading the AV unit to a 5.1 option but I'd be gutted to pay £500+ on a new unit that can't be used. I'm not sure how people manage to put up with this as it renders the TV unwatchable for me.

Don't most TVs have some sort of audio delay setting?

I was getting a sync issue watching on my inbuilt Prime app, set the audio delay to 4 and it was perfect again.

This is with an optical cable from TV to active bookshelf speakers.
