Hoping that someone on the know will be along to advise, does there exist such a thing as a mic/audio splitter for phones so that you could use a microphone & a set of headphones simultaneously, but without them being the kind with an in line mic? Think that makes sense...

Have had a look around but can't see anything that looks like it'd do the job...

Something like this? A headset splitter?

Found on the rainforest very quickly :p.

Not quite, for what I'm trying to do, I want to use a separate set of headphones, and a stand alone mic, but obviously they can't both be plugged in at once... Looking for a solution that will split /merge the signals

Then surely the splitter I posted above should be fine? What it does is it seperates the microphone and headphone ports into individual ones, allowing you to use your own headphone and microphone, at the same time. I didn't post a picture of a standard 3.5mm splitter, but a headset splitter that splits the audio out and audio in jacks (4 ring 3.5mm jack to 2 3 ring 3.5mm jack).

EDIT: Item was called "Startech.com 3.5mm 4 Pin to 2x 3 Pin 3.5mm Headset Splitter Adapter"

Overcomes the limitation of some laptop audio ports, by turning a single 4-position 3.5mm audio port into two distinct 3-position 3.5mm audio ports, allowing you to connect a microphone as well as external speakers
